Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton helped put reality television on the map with “The Simple Life.” The series premiered in 2003 and ended in 2007. There was then a reunion, “Paris & Nicole: The Encore,” in 2024. Now, Richie is opening up about whether or not she has plans for more reality television.
Richie interviewed with PEOPLE in October 2025. When asked why she decided to do the reunion with Hilton, she responded, “I did the reunion because it was the 20-year anniversary, and it felt right.”
The reality television icon then discussed her future in the reality genre. She said, “It felt like something that we both wanted to do, and that was so fun. But I have no plans for that in the future.”
Richie Previously Expressed Her Excitement for the ‘Simple Life’ Reunion
“Paris & Nicole: The Encore” premiered in December on Peacock. Both Richie and Nicole discussed the nostalgia surrounding their highly anticipated reunion, including in a conversation with Rolling Stone.
Regarding deciding to do a reunion for “The Simple Life,” Richie said, “My kids were watching clips, and their friends were watching clips. That was definitely a big part of the reason why I was excited to do this reunion.”
She added, “Just as a way to celebrate this really great show that we did 20 years ago. It’s really nice to see a whole new generation laugh and giggle and have a good time.”
Richie also revealed that she and Hilton had received previous offers to reunite. According to her, “We’ve said no to all the offers that have come up to do any version of The Simple Life again or to do a 10-year reunion.”
She continued, “We didn’t necessarily talk about why, but we both just decided that this was the moment where we felt like we wanted to do this. When we decided to come back, we said to each other, ‘What would that look like? What would that feel like?’ We just really built it from the ground up.”
The mom of two added, “On Season One of The Simple Life, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We didn’t know what city we were going to, we didn’t know what state, it was just surprise after surprise for 30 days. I think that’s the biggest difference.”
She Remains Busy These Days
Richie has been married to Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden since 2010. They have two children, Harlow and Sparrow. Career-wise, she became a judge on Prime Video’s “Making the Cut” in 2020. Since its debut, the series has had three seasons in total.
The former “Simple Life” star is also the creative director and founder of House of Harlow 1960, which is a lifestyle brand.
