Joanna Gaines made farmhouse chic an iconic look in the late 2010s. Now, it appears the HGTV legend is changing things up in her own Texas home.
Gaines is taking fans along as she completely guts her beloved kitchen.
Joanna Gaines’ Kitchen Renovation
“Breakfast with a side of sawdust. 😳🤗 #FarmReno,” the Magnolia Network co-founder captioned a comical Instagram post on April 30.
Gaines was trying to enjoy her breakfast taco amid the chaos of construction crews in her living space.
Based on the clip, Joanna and husband Chip Gaines have decided on a whole gut renovation. Cabinets have been removed from the space, and the island is nowhere to be seen. Floating shelves and wall cabinets have been taken down as well. The only thing remaining, which helps identify the space is Gaines’ signature white shiplap which lines the walls.
“Well now I want tacos with a side of a kitchen demo 😆” one fan joked in the comments.
“I too would like to order tacos and kitchen reno off the menu please!✋️” another laughed.
Joanna Gaines’ Past Renovation
Fans in the comments were quick to point out that it didn’t seem like long ago when the “Fixer Upper” star completed a small renovation on the same kitchen.
“Didn’t you just redo your kitchen from white cabinets to green?” one follower questioned.
“I was thinking the same thing but then looked back and that was about 6 years ago now. Time flies,” another responded.
In February 2021, Gaines walked fans through another renovation at her farmhouse during an episode of “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.”
“A couple months back, Jojo wanted to ‘add on’ to the farmhouse — and of course I, like an idiot, agreed, but now look what she’s gotten us into,” Chip joked in February 2021.
Joanna explained, “So this has turned into an actual nightmare situation. Crew’s room is right here.”
The mother of five pointed to a doorway covered in plastic, which used to be their youngest son Crew’s bedroom. (Chip and Joanna also share sons Drake and Duke, as well as daughters Ella and Emmie.)
“So Crew no longer sleeps in this room,” she added.
In addition to Crew’s bedroom, Joanna decided to change up her kitchen.
“[I] decided a little late in the game I wanted to go ahead and repaint our cabinets,” she said, showing her once-white kitchen cabinets, now a forest-green color. “I just wanted the space to really evolve with the new addition and I just thought it was time for a change.”
Joanna gave a small tour of the downstairs living area, showing a newly-opened wall which used to lead to the outside. Now, through the entryway is a beautiful living space for the large family.
“We’ve scabbed in all the old shiplap so that it looks really nice,” Joanna continued. “Now this is open. This used to be a window, and now you can see into the room. And then they’re putting the floors in today. We left all the [ceiling] beams. Floors, plaster and then lighting and we’re done, babe. It is almost finished.”
