Doctors Reverse Wendy Williams’ Dementia Diagnosis After Nearly Two Years

Wendy Williams’ story took a major turn this week after her doctors reportedly retracted her frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. Nearly two years after the condition led to a court-ordered guardianship, new neurological tests suggest the former “The Wendy Williams Show” host may not have the illness that changed the course of her life. The revelation could open the door for Williams to regain control of her finances, freedom, and public narrative.

A Shocking Reversal

In February 2024, Williams’ care team announced she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, claiming the conditions explained her “behavioral changes and cognitive issues” reports Page Six. That statement cemented her image as a woman in steep decline and reinforced her court-appointed guardianship. Her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, was granted control over Williams’ finances after Wells Fargo raised concerns about “undue influence” in early 2022.

Now, nearly two years later, new tests conducted by a neurologist in New York City have found no evidence of frontotemporal dementia, according to Page Six’s report. Sources told the outlet that Williams’ doctors have “walked back” the diagnosis that once justified her guardianship. Her legal team reportedly plans to file documents requesting that the court terminate the arrangement. If the petition is denied, they intend to take the case to trial. “This is vindication,” one source close to the star said, adding that the results “change everything” cites Page Six.

Wendy’s Fight for Independence

Williams has long denied claims that she is cognitively impaired. Earlier this year, she called her guardianship “emotional abuse” and said she felt like she was “in prison” under the restrictions says The Guardian. Her lawyer, LaShawn Thomas, has also argued that the guardianship has “isolated Wendy from her family and friends” while limiting her access to her own finances.

The new medical findings could change that dynamic completely. Legal experts say that if the original dementia diagnosis is found to be false, the justification for court control may no longer exist. Her case has become a flashpoint in conversations about conservatorship reform, echoing past high-profile examples that raised questions about oversight and accountability in the legal system.

What Lies Ahead

Fans and supporters now hope this marks the beginning of Wendy Williams’ comeback. The former daytime host—known for her bold opinions, trademark catchphrase “How you doin’?,” and 13-year run on “The Wendy Williams Show”—has been largely absent from the public eye since the talk show ended in 2022 Her belongings reportedly remain in storage, and she continues to live in a supervised facility as legal proceedings unfold.

If the updated medical results are confirmed in court, Williams could soon take back control of her life and perhaps her career. For a woman whose entire brand was built on speaking her truth, this moment may finally let her do it again, freely and on her own terms.

  2. Wtf! You MFers literally stole her freedom and took her basic human rights from her! Savages you are forcing her into an asylum against her will Ignoring the pleas and facts and clear evidence that this was wrong! My heart aches for her and all the lost time she will NEVER get back! You rotten godless bastards threw her away and took control of her assets without decency or humanity or compassion! I hope she sues you ALL for every penny you have! Release her and return her God given freedom immediately! It is truly my greatest fear to have my freedom stolen from me and to be forced into an institution against my will how the hell did this happen in America? Despicable and disgusting! I DEMAND justice!

    • It happens all the time. I’m in the medical and see this all the time. It so sad to see the older generation with their driving and even basic daily life taken away. Some do need it but it is such a sad situation to see. The mentally disabled fought for their rights and they mostly won. That’s why a lot of mental institutions closed. I pray she gets her life back.

      • Sadly with the current administration I truly fear they will try to make it illegal to have mental illness. They are already making it illegal to be homeless! It’s absolutely frightening

  3. This is wonderful news and I hope Wendy can return to the life, career and FREEDOM that was taken away from her. As it was happening, I kept thinking “this can’t be true! How is this possible to steal her life, money, property, show and access to HER FAMILY?!” I know she will conquer the disgusting, blood sucking piranhas that stole from her and return to freedom, public life, her family and her show. I pray she will be free to enjoy Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Year’s with her family and friends who never turned their backs on her. Her bold honesty and groundbreaking show is needed. Please come back! All the best to you. We are all thinking “how you doin?” with a positive response like “I’m back!”

  5. hope Wendy fights back even more now – I hope Wendy gets to be happy and get her life back to the way she was used to living it. The people who labelled her and did this should be prosecuted under any law for being able to do this.
