Things for Portia Robinson just got a whole lot more complicated on “General Hospital.” The co-chief of staff has been fighting for months to save her marriage to Curtis Ashford while being blackmailed by Drew Cain. She kept the congressman’s demands quiet until it became impossible, but by the time she clued Curtis in, it seemed a bit too late.
Curtis has done everything to try to protect his wife, but he has resented her lies and has spent a lot of time venting about the situation to his ex, Jordan. Portia and Curtis put everything bad behind them and ended up in bed, but the reconciliation was short-lived. All the wishful thinking still couldn’t stop Curtis from resenting his wife, and she pulled the plug on their marriage.
Since then, Portia has hooked up with Dr. Isaiah Gannon a few times in a no-strings situation, and now she is pregnant. As GH rolls out a Who’s the Daddy storyline, Brook Kerr recently chatted with Soap Opera Digest about her character’s messy situation.
Portia’s Pregnancy Is More Than a Little Complicated
ABCBrook Kerr, who has played Portia Robinson since 2020, is having the time of her life on GH. โEvery time I get a script, Iโm like, โOh, my God, this is so cool!โ โOh, my God, I love this!โ Itโs very tantalizing,” explains the actress. She is also thrilled about the latest developments in her character’s life.
โI was about to shoot some scenes, and Frank (Valentini, GH’s executive producer) came down and he did this little finger thing, like, โCome here.’ So I came around to where he was, behind the set, and he goes, โYouโre doing a great job with this. Donโt tell anybody, but Portiaโs gonna have a baby.โ I was like, โReally? Are you serious? Wow!โ I was just kind of in shock when he dropped the bomb on me. Itโs such a weighty thing; itโs so beautiful to have a child on a show, you know? Itโs all these new things to play. And Trinaโs going to be a big sister! There were all sorts of things flooding through my mind for about 10 seconds โ and then I had to go shoot some other doctor stuff,” explains Kerr.
The timing of the pregnancy only adds to the mess of Portia’s current life. โI think sheโs a little disappointed in herself, like, โHow could I get myself in this kind of situation?! Thereโs a possibility that two men could be the father of my child,” says Kerr.
A Baby May End Up Being a Happy Accident for Portia
ABCWhile Portia is sad to see her marriage end, being able to control her life alone is empowering. โI think this is kind of the first time that Portia has been on her own. She thinks only of herself right now โ and her daughter, of course, but really, sheโs feeling like sheโs alone for the first time, which is kind of a scary feeling for her, but itโs also nice because sheโs figuring things out on her own.”
She continues, “I think itโs one of those happy problems, if you know what I mean โ itโs a problem thatโs not a problem. Itโs just definitely a shock at the beginning, especially because Portia has always been so responsible. Sheโs professional, sheโs the co-chief of staff at the hospital, but Portia definitely feels like sheโs at risk of disappointing everybody again. She knows this is going to affect a lot of lives.โ
Portia is obviously uneasy about another baby, but Brook Kerr is thrilled to play out whatever curveballs the GH writers have in store for her.
