Long-time host and executive producer Jeff Probst has dropped some hints about which cast members from the current season of “Survivor” will be returning for the special anniversary season 50. Speaking in an interview about the upcoming reality television show, Probst revealed how the contestants were told and provided some clues about who viewers might get to see return in the next season.
Jeff Probst Drops Hints at Returning Season 50 Cast
CBS has already revealed that “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans” will see a cast of returning “Survivor” players from previous seasons. But now host Probst has provided some information about how the cast of season 49 were told that they could be selected and provided some hints about who viewers might get to see again.
Per Parade, Probst spoke in an interview by blakehaynestv on TikTok and explained that he informed the season 49 players during last night’s tribe merge that they had a shot of being chosen to come back for season 50.
“Next week, the tribes merge, and when they were all together, I said, ‘I’m gonna tell you something. We haven’t shot Survivor 50, and we’re not fully cast,’” Probst reveals. “And I’m telling you this because I want you to know you’re not just players on this season before 50. You are players on our 49th season, and if anybody here makes a big enough mark between now and the end of the game, you could end up on 50.”
”And it lit a fire, because I think there was a feeling that maybe we are just the season before 50, and it changes the back half of the season,” he continued. “It’s bananas with really unpredictable gameplay, because suddenly, people have something to prove. I want to be on 50, and two players from 49 end up on 50 as a result of that moment.”
Probst Speaks Out About Season 50 Casting Choices
Probst has already opened up about the casting decision for season 50 of “Survivor.” On an earlier episode of his podcast, the host explained why no contestants from “Survivor: Winners at War” would appear in the upcoming anniversary special.
During the conversations with Jeremy Collins, Probst detailed the fact that the production team didn’t want to include some fan-favorites from “Survivor: Winners at War” as that season was still relatively recent. Bringing back people from that season was perceived as potentially being boring for viewers.
“But we made a decision not to bring any of the winners from Winners at War because we had just seen them and it was a big season,” said Probst. “And I know a lot of people are going to miss players like Jeremy, but that was the reason why. That simple.”
