While season 49 of “Survivor” is well underway, many fans are already eagerly anticipating the release of the special anniversary edition of the show. Season 50 promises to be a huge occasion in the CBS calendar when it hits television screens in Spring 2026 but some fans have been left disappointed with the announced cast for the landmark show. Now, longtime host and showrunner Jeff Probst has shed some light on why some big names from the series’ history have been omitted.
Jeff Probst Explains Why Some Big Names Won’t Appear
When the cast of season 50 of “Survivor” was announced several months ago — with the likes of Ozzy Lusth, Cirie Fields, and Mike White involved — there were several big names conspicuously absent from the lineup. This included the likes of Parvati Shallow, Sandra Diaz-Twine, and Tony Vlachos, as well as the legendary Boston Rob. Many fans have wondered exactly why these people were omitted from what is such an important moment in the show’s history.
Probst has now shed some light on the reasoning behind the casting decision for season 50. Speaking on the latest episode of his “On Fire with Jeff Probst” podcast, the long-running host had a discussion with producer Jay Wolff and former “Survivor” winner Jeremy Collins about the situation.
“If only Jeremy hadn’t just played in ‘Survivor’ 40, chances of him being on 50 are very high,” he says.
“But we made a decision not to bring any of the winners from Winners at War because we had just seen them and it was a big season. And I know a lot of people are going to miss players like Jeremy, but that was the reason why. That simple.”
“Survivor: Winners at War” only aired in 2020, so it does make some sense that the producers wouldn’t want to necessarily bring back many of the same people — especially when some had made multiple “Survivor” appearances over the years.
Parvati Shallow Reacts to Probst Podcast
GettyIn the same podcast, Probst and Collins discussed previous winners of the series and spoke about Shallow. When Collins was asked about whether Shallow’s win on “Australian Survivor: Australia V The World” counts as a second win for the competitor, he replied saying, “In my Survivor world, I say she has one and a half wins. It’s a good win. Survivor Australia is a good one. But it’s not the same as Survivor U.S.”
Leaving a comment about the podcast discussion, Shallow made sure that her feelings about the situation were clear. In a pointed message, she said, “A couple of straight men trying to discredit a woman… get a new move boys.”

Well it is a different show, kudos for winning it in Australia, but I don’t think they are discrediting Pavarti, I think she’s a little high on herself….
After watching the show go woke after ending the “come on in guys” phase it has lost viewers. So I turned to Australia survivors and they are hands down 100% better.
