Taylor Swift is in the giving spirit this holiday season.
The American Heart Association announced that the singer has donated one million dollars in honor of her father. The money will go towards advancing “ongoing scientific research, stronger prevention and treatment efforts, and expanded access to life‑saving care for every community.”
“Taylor Swift’s remarkable generosity will create lasting change far beyond its financial value,” chief executive officer of the American Heart Association Nancy Brown said in a statement. “Her family’s experience with cardiovascular disease is all too common, affecting nearly half of American adults. Her commitment to supporting her father will make so many others aware of the need to take their own heart health seriously, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve controllable risk factors—ultimately helping more people live longer, healthier lives.”
Scott Swift Underwent Quintuple Bypass Surgery
Over the summer, Scott Swift underwent a major quintuple bypass surgery, in which Taylor referred to as “really intense” during her appearance on the New Heights podcast.
“So, it it all happened really quick,” Taylor explained, adding that Scott had a “perfect EKG” every time he went to the doctor for annual physicals. But in a cardiac stress test, doctors discovered five blockages in his heart.
And with that, Taylor also went into detail about her father’s mood following the surgery.
“He wakes up from surgery, and it’s my mom, my brother, and me and his best friend. He did like a comedy act, a comedy set for 15 minutes. He was the funniest he’s ever been, and he’s usually really funny,” she added. “He came out of surgery, tried to give guitar picks to all the nurses and doctors, but he wasn’t wearing pants, didn’t have pockets, hospital gown, you know?”
With that, Taylor moved in with Scott to help take care of him.
“And he was like the loveliest patient ever. He just kept saying thank you over and over again,” Taylor said.
