Former Bachelorette Shares Emotional Health Update: ‘Hardly Get Out of Bed’

Michelle Young is opening up more about her health, sharing a personal update with fans after months of navigating challenges behind the scenes.

In an Instagram post on April 17, the former “The Bachelorette” lead reflected on the past several months, opening up about her Dysautonomia diagnosis, more specifically POTS, after a long stretch of symptoms and medical testing.

Young, 32, who first appeared on season 25 of “The Bachelor” starring Matt James before leading season 18 of “The Bachelorette,” said symptoms include severe fatigue, heart palpitations, panic attacks, brain fog, and body aches, among others, which at times become so intense she could “hardly get out of bed.”

What Is Dysautonomia? What Is POTS?

Dysautonomia is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system, according to Cleveland Clinic. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), is a form of Dysautonomia, which controls functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the condition is often linked to a significant increase in heart rate while standing, along with symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating.

The former Bachelorette said getting a POTS diagnosis was a long process.

“There were months of doctor’s visits, misdiagnoses, scans and tests,” Young wrote, adding that she was first diagnosed with mold exposure, then POTS.

She had previously shared details about her health in November 2025, when she revealed that she and her husband, Jack Leius, had to cut their honeymoon short because her “health couldn’t keep up,” according to Us Weekly.

At the time, she said she had been dealing with similar symptoms for months, and she later continued to update fans in March of this year as she navigated treatment.

“Although grateful to have a diagnosis, it hasn’t been the easiest to accept,” Young wrote on Instagram.

In Young’s new post, she shared a day-in-the-life-style video, where she went on sharing how she navigates her life with POTS, including keeping a cozy home, reading, and doing low-energy tasks.

She also reflected on how much this experience has shifted what she expected this chapter of her life to look like, namely her first year of marriage to sales consultant Leius.

The couple got engaged in December 2024 and tied the knot in June 2025.

“There are days where I’ve still grieve the life I thought I would have by now,” Young wrote. “Like spending the first year of marriage traveling and taking on spontaneous adventures…Not doctor appointments, weekly infusions, and dealing with flares that pop up at anytime.”

Still, Young said she is focused on moving forward. She shared that she believes she can overcome POTS if she is able to rebuild and regulate her nervous system while continuing treatment related to mold exposure.

“So I guess this is a little ‘come along with me’ as I rebuild my nervous system and fight to get back to being me,” Young said.

She added that she wishes sharing her experience will help others dealing with similar health challenges.

“I’m hoping that sharing this will help others not feel so alone who may be fighting their own invisible illness,” Young said.
