King Charles and Queen Camilla continue to present a united front as they approach another milestone in their relationship.
The royal couple will celebrate 21 years of marriage on April 9. As the anniversary approaches, commentators and observers are reflecting on the partnership that has defined their public and private lives for decades.
According to broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard, one aspect of their living arrangements may contribute to the success of their relationship.
Royal Expert Says Separate Bedrooms Support the Couple’s Relationship
Chard shared insight into the couple’s dynamic during an interview with Fox News Digital, explaining that the pair’s approach to personal space may help maintain balance in their marriage.
“They have known each other since [they were] very young and are great friends. There is no competitive edge between King Charles and Queen Camilla,” Chard told Fox News Digital.
She also said their home setup at Clarence House allows both togetherness and independence.
“They have also sussed out the best sleeping arrangements. At Clarence House, they are privileged to have their own bedrooms as well as their shared bedroom,” Chard said.
Clarence House serves as the couple’s main residence in London. The property allows the King and Queen to maintain private areas while still sharing time together.
King Charles and Queen Camilla Maintain Homes in the Countryside
In addition to Clarence House, both Charles and Camilla maintain countryside homes where they spend time away from royal duties.
Charles purchased Highgrove House in Gloucestershire in 1980 through the Duchy of Cornwall. The property is known for its extensive gardens, which visitors can explore through guided tours.
Last year, the King spent time at Highgrove after being hospitalized due to what a royal source described as an adverse reaction to his routine cancer treatment. At the time, the source told reporters it was “the most minor bump in the road that’s very much heading in the right direction.”
Camilla also maintains a private residence of her own. She purchased Ray Mill House in Wiltshire in 1996 following her divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles the previous year.
The property is located about 15 minutes from Highgrove and has served as a personal retreat for Camilla over the years. According to The Sun, the home includes a swimming pool, stables, and a river and has been a gathering place for her children and grandchildren.
Chard said the couple’s independence helps support their long-term relationship.
“They are both independent people. They don’t live in each other’s pockets, spending a healthy chunk of their time apart in their country homes,” she said. “Camilla enjoys time with her many friends and family and Charles values private work and creative time.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla Celebrate More Than Two Decades Together
The couple’s anniversary comes as they continue to carry out royal duties together.
Observers who recently met the pair during their visit to Rome described a strong connection between them.
“What I witnessed between King Charles and Queen Camilla was profound – they’re genuinely, deeply in love,” Dr. Paul Atkin, CEO of The Teatro San Cassiano Group, told People.
“There’s something extraordinarily moving about seeing that level of devotion, especially considering all they’ve weathered together,” Atkin added.
