In 1991, Princess Diana famously opened up to author Andrew Morton via a series of recorded tapes, where she discussed her place within the royal family, her marriage to then-Prince Charles, and her fears for the future.
Morton used these stories as the basis for a blockbuster book, “Diana: Her True Story,” in 1992. However, less than an hour of this series of conversations has been heard. According to The Daily Mail, a new TV show, “Diana: The Unheard Truth,” is set to release all of Diana’s secret recordings.
‘Diana: The Unheard Truth’ Gives a Behind-The-Scenes Look at Royal Life
The Daily Mail reports that “Diana: The Unheard Truth” will share a good number of Princess Diana’s secret recordings. The series will reportedly be three episodes long.
The Princess of Wales recorded tapes for Andrew Morton for his then-secret project, “Diana: Her True Story.” The royal secretly worked with Morton to provide him with insider information about her life, marriage to Charles, and other secret details over the course of one year. The book was published in 1992.
Although Diana secretly made the recordings, she wasn’t the person who handed them over to Morton. She reportedly enlisted her friend, James Colthurst, to deliver them to the author. This scene was famously re-enacted in Netflix’s “The Crown.”
Deadline reported that producer Love Monday partnered with Morton and Colthurst to retrieve these tapes for the series. The project will reportedly “challenge the reductive narrative that has too often framed Diana as a victim of her circumstances.”
The Hollywood Reporter also shared a statement from Love Monday. It reads, “Viewers will be astounded to hear how accurate she was in predicting the future. However, what is truly astounding is to hear Diana’s thoughts on Charles, Camilla, [Prince] William, [Prince] Harry, Fergie [Sarah Ferguson], and even Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor through the lens of all that has happened in the intervening years.”

It’s going to be quite powerful.”
“Diana: The Unheard Truth” will not be released until the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing. The late Princess of Wales perished in a car accident in August 1997. There has been no mention if the series will air worldwide or just in the United Kingdom.
