If you thought “The Voice” was just going to coast into another season… yeah, think again. Season 29 (officially titled “The Voice: Battle of Champions”) premieres tonight, February 23, 2026, at 9:00pm ET, and it seems like NBC is very much in its shake-things-up era.
Between a slimmer coach panel and some shiny new twists, the show is clearly aiming to keep both fans and coaches on their toes. And honestly? We’re not mad about it.
Three Coaches, Higher Stakes
For the first time ever, The Voice is rolling with just three coaches instead of four. Season 29 brings back fan favorites Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine; which means every chair turn suddenly matters a whole lot more.
The format itself is also getting a glow-up. New strategic elements include: a Triple Turn Competition, theSuper Steal, and an All-Star Showdown (more about that below). The full mechanics of each of these are still a bit mysterious (because of course they are), but the vibe is clear: the game just got more tactical. Coaches aren’t just listening anymore… they’re plotting.
Early Standouts From the Blind Auditions
NBC hasn’t revealed the full contestant lineup yet, but a few artists have already popped up in sneak peeks and promos; and yep, fans are already picking favorites.
Lucas West is one of the first names getting buzz after performing “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John in an early preview. In the clip, both Levine and Legend turn their chairs. Not a bad way to introduce yourself.
Meanwhile, Alexia Jayy is also turning heads. In early social media promos, she performs “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Carole King and earns what is now the Season 29 equivalent of a full sweep; a rare three-chair turn in the new three-coach format.
“The Voice” official Instagram has also been teasing mystery singers and asking fans to guess who’s behind the voice. So far, these artists have been named in promos:
- Liv Ciara
- Julia Golden
- Nicolette Capua
- Tia Durant
- Landon Price
- Bay Simpson
- Aaron Lavigne
- Hunter Jordan
- Jason Farol
- Mike Steele
- Aziz Guerra
- Jonah Mayor
Right now, these are among the only publicly confirmed names tied to the Blind Auditions; which, let’s be real, is very on brand for how tightly this show guards its spoilers.
The ‘All-Star’ Twist is Bringing the Heat
One of Season 29’s biggest wild cards is happening later, in the Knockouts-stage, the All-Star Showdown. But don’t panic; these returning names are not competing for the Season 29 title. Instead, past standouts will pop in to help coaches earn advantages during the Knockouts. Yep, strategy meets nostalgia.
Confirmed “All-Star” participants include:
- Javier Colon (Season 1 winner)
- Jordan Smith (Season 9 winner)
- Maelyn Jarmon (Season 16 winner)
- Jake Hoot (Season 17 winner)
- Girl Named Tom (Season 21 winner)
- Renzo (Season 27 third place)
Translation: expect some serious vocal moments when the Knockouts hit.
What’s Still Under Wraps
Let’s be real; even with all these previews floating around, NBC is still keeping plenty close to the vest.
Here’s what we don’t officially know yet:
- the full Top 30 contestant list
- which artists land on which teams after the Blinds
- any results from Battles, Knockouts, Semifinals, and Finals
“The Voice” usually reveals details week by week, so fans will have to keep watching as the season unfolds.
One thing’s already clear, though. Between the format changes, returning champions, and early standout voices, Season 29 isn’t playing it safe. It’s swinging big… and it seems like this competition is about to get very interesting.
Catch new episodes of “The Voice” Mondays at 9:00pm ET on NBC, streaming next day on Peacock.
