Taylor Sheridan has proven once again that he is Paramount’s golden goose. His newest series, “The Madison”—a spinoff of the global juggernaut “Yellowstone”—has officially been renewed for a second season before its first episode even hits Paramount+.
Paramount Doubles Down on Taylor Sheridan’s Success
The network confirmed the early renewal during a press event, with executives praising Sheridan.
“On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe,” said Cindy Holland, Paramount’s Chair of Direct-to-Consumer, according to Deadline. CEO David Ellison went even further, calling Sheridan “a singular genius with a perfect track record.”
With “Yellowstone” dominating TV since its 2018 debut and spinoffs like “1923,” “1883,” and “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” pulling in strong viewership, Paramount is betting that “The Madison” will extend Sheridan’s winning streak.
‘The Madison’: Everything We Know So Far
Set in Montana, “The Madison” follows a New York City family who relocates to the rugged Madison River Valley after the death of their patriarch. Academy Award nominee Michelle Pfeiffer (“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”) leads the cast as matriarch Stacy Clyburn, while “Suits” star Patrick J. Adams plays her ambitious son-in-law, Russell McIntosh. Matthew Fox (“Lost”) stars as “a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors,” a role originally rumored to be played by Kurt Russell.
The series also features Beau Garrett (“The Good Doctor”) and newcomer Elle Chapman as Pfeiffer’s daughters, Abigail and Paige. Pfeiffer’s character will navigate grief while guiding her family into an unfamiliar way of life in Montana—placing them in close proximity to the Duttons’ world without directly continuing their storyline.
Director Christina Alexandra Voros teased the show’s unique perspective in an interview with Variety: “We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being’s place in that space, but it’s coming at it from a completely different point of view.”
What’s Next for the Taylor Sheridan Universe
Alongside “The Madison”, Sheridan’s “Special Ops: Lioness”, starring Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, has also been renewed for a third season.
Meanwhile, Paramount is reportedly considering additional “Yellowstone” spinoffs, including a project centered on fan favorites Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly). A spinoff for Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) has also been confirmed, and for the first time, a Sheridan project will air on CBS.
Sheridan’s overall deal with Paramount runs until 2028, but Ellison told Deadline he’s already considering a long-term extension: “We can just make this his home for as long as he wants to tell stories.”
