Dan Levy Speaks Through Tears Remembering Beloved ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Co-Star Catherine O’Hara

Dan Levy grew visibly emotional as he revisited the set of “Schitt’s Creek,” reflecting on the memories tied to the beloved series and his late co-star Catherine O’Hara.

During an appearance on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” Levy returned to Goodwood, Ontario, where the show was filmed, marking his first visit since the series concluded in 2020.

Standing outside the storefront that once served as Rose Apothecary, he was asked about the possibility of continuing the story.

“No. Not now,” Levy said. “You can’t,” he added.

“I didn’t think that I’d have quite an emotional reaction”: “Schitt’s Creek” co-creator Dan Levy returns to Goodwood, Ontario, the town where the hit show was filmed — and dismisses the idea of a sequel without his late co-star, Catherine O’Hara, who died in January. #danlevy #schittscreek

Returning to the set carried more weight than Dan Levy expected, as familiar surroundings brought back memories of his time with Catherine O’Hara.

“Yeah, I was thinking about it. Yeah,” he said when asked if he had considered a sequel, his voice softening as he became emotional.

“It’s tough. It’s tough being back,” he continued, wiping his eyes. “I didn’t think that I’d have quite an emotional reaction.”

Asked what was going through his mind, Levy took a moment before responding.

“Just a lot of memories … lot of memories with Catherine.”

Sequel Plans Were Once Considered

Levy shared that he had once considered continuing the story of “Schitt’s Creek,” which wrapped after six seasons.

The series, co-created with his father Eugene Levy, followed the Rose family and grew into a cultural touchstone, earning widespread acclaim and a record-setting sweep at the 2020 Emmys.

Now, Levy said, the idea of revisiting that world feels different.

“It’s what you have to hold onto is the memories of it all,” he said, noting that the show’s impact continues to live on through the moments it created.

Honoring Catherine O’Hara’s Legacy

Just a few days ago, Levy took a moment to reflect on the lasting impact Catherine O’Hara had on him, both as a performer and as a person.

“She was the greatest. She’s irreplaceable,” he said during a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“The great comfort for me has just been to see how loved she was, you know what I mean? The outpouring. Everyone felt like they kind of knew her.”

Levy also praised her presence on set, calling her “unbelievably talented at improvising” and “one of the great, great, great, great queens.”

As he turns his attention to new projects, including his upcoming series “Big Mistakes,” Levy made clear that the legacy of “Schitt’s Creek” remains deeply personal.

For now, he holds onto the memories they created together, describing them simply as “a lot of memories” that continue to stay with him.
