Diane Keaton’s tragic passing has prompted an outpouring of love and tributes from Hollywood’s biggest names. Sarah Jessica Parker is joining the bandwagon as she pays homage to Keaton, her former co-star and longtime inspiration. For Parker, Keaton was far more than a Hollywood legend. She was a cherished friend and mentor, the kind of person whose warmth could fill a room and whose laughter lingered long after she left it. Even after their time on set, they stayed close, connected by respect, curiosity, and deep friendship.

I was very privileged to witness her singular skill and talent on both First Wives Club and The Family Stone. I will cherish those memories on set as well as her touching, delightful, and perfectly her own cinematic career, which is a gorgeous legacy of an exquisite person. She will be terribly missed. RIP and Godspeed, you glorious creature. X, SJ.”
Their Bond Through ‘The First Wives Club’ & ‘The Family Stone’
Parker and Keaton’s connection spanned two beloved ensemble films that showcased the best of both actresses. In the 1996 hit “The First Wives Club”, Keaton starred alongside Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler, while Parker played Shelly Stewart, the much younger girlfriend who shakes up their friendship.
Years later, in 2005’s “The Family Stone”, the two reunited as part of another memorable ensemble cast, this time as future in-laws in a holiday dramedy that became a modern classic.
Both films highlighted Keaton’s trademark wit and warmth, as well as Parker’s respect for her co-star’s artistry. On and off screen, their dynamic reflected admiration and ease, as two women at different stages of stardom were united by humor and mutual respect.
A Legacy That Inspired Generations
Keaton’s death left Hollywood reeling, with tributes pouring in from co-stars and friends who had worked alongside her across six decades.
From “Annie Hall” to “Something’s Gotta Give”, she redefined what it meant to be a leading lady: witty, authentic, and completely herself. Her talent, fashion sense, and unapologetic independence inspired actresses like Parker, Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda, and Reese Witherspoon.
As Hollywood continues to mourn, Parker’s heartfelt words mirror what so many feel: that Diane Keaton’s humor, grace, and fearless originality will live on, inspiring generations of women both on screen and in life.
