25 years ago, “The Family Stone” premiered for the first time, adding a new Christmas movie classic to everyone’s yearly watchlist. Here are photos of the cast back then and now.
Diane Keaton Then & Now
GettyDiane Keaton was arguably the star of “The Family Stone,” playing a matriarch trying to navigate Christmas with her family and her son’s new girlfriend.
GettyKeaton remained beautiful as ever in the years following the release of “The Family Stone.” Tragically, though, she passed away this year. Keaton’s death prompted numerous tributes to pour in as fans and coworkers alike shared the incredible impact she and her work had on the world.
Rachel McAdams Then & Now
GettyRachel McAdams played the youngest member of the Stone family. Her character, Amy, developed tension with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Meredith Morton, early on due to Meredith’s insistence on not sharing a room with her boyfriend. Thus, she got Amy’s room, leaving Amy to sleep on the couch.
GettyToday, McAdams looks grown up and as beautiful as ever. Early next year, she’ll star alongside Dylan O’Brien in “Please Send Help,” a survivor thriller about a woman (McAdams) and her boss (O’Brien) who get stranded on an island after a plane crash.
Sarah Jessica Parker
GettyParker played the antagonist of “The Family Stone,” the person whose presence threatens the family’s status quo. Her inability to fit in provides many humorous moments throughout the film.
GettyToday, Parker can be seen on HBO’s “Sex and the City” revival, “And Just Like That,” although the show was recently canceled. According to IMDb, Parker is currently filming “Hocus Pocus 3,” although we don’t yet know when that will be released.
Dermot Mulroney
GettyDermot Mulroney played Everett Stone, the eldest Stone child and the one bringing Meredith home for the holidays. Although he initially intends to propose to Meredith, his feelings change over the course of the film.
GettyToday, Mulroney is as busy as ever. According to IMDb, he has nine upcoming projects and released seven movies in 2025 alone. On top of that, he had a main role in “The Hunting Wives” on Netflix and has acted in many episodes of “Chicago Fire.”
Luke Wilson
GettyLuke Wilson played Ben Stone, Everett’s polar opposite. Despite being so different, the brothers discover one important thing in common by the end of the movie (but we won’t spoil that here).
GettyWilson has continued acting since “The Family Stone.” He can be seen in Netflix’s “No Good Deed,” but fans may see him more often in a currently-airing AT&T commercial.
Craig T. Nelson
GettyCraig T. Nelson played the patriarch of the family, the husband of Keaton’s character. Today, his voice can be heard in “The Incredibles 2,” and fans can see him both in “Young Sheldon” and a few episodes of its spin-off show, “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.”
GettyTyrone Giordano
GettyTyrone Giordano played Thad Stone, the youngest son and an architect who also happens to be deaf, just like the actor. After “The Family Stone,” Giordano was the Director of Artistic Sign Language for Studio Theatre and acted with Deaf West, according to his LinkedIn.
Elizabeth Reaser
GettyElizabeth Reaser has barely aged at all since playing the eldest daughter in “The Family Stone.” Today, she can be seen in movies like “The Uninvited” and “Dark Harvest,” as well as TV shows like Netflix’s “Easy.”
GettyClaire Danes
GettyClaire Danes has had an impressive career since she played Meredith’s sister in “The Family Stone.” In addition to her Emmy-winning performance in “Homeland,” she recently starred in “The Beast in Me” on Netflix.
Getty“The Family Stone” is available to stream on Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.
