‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale Spoilers & Predictions: What’s to Come In ‘Tragedy and Flies’

“Landman” is heading into its season 2 finale, and episode 9 set up several major storylines that are likely to explode in episode 10, titled “Tragedy and Flies.”

The penultimate episode ended with Tommy Norris facing a career shock, Ainsley getting a harsh introduction to college life, and Ariana and Cooper getting caught in a dangerous situation with serious consequences.

Here’s a quick recap of what happened — and what it likely means for the finale.

Episode 9 Recap: Tommy Gets Fired, and Ariana Faces a Scary Attack

“Landman” season 2 episode 9 opens with the usual split between family chaos and M-Tex pressure.

Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) starts cheer camp at Texas Christian University (TCU). She meets her new roommate, Paigyn, who immediately lays down strict rules for the dorm room, including no meat and no music. Ainsley tries to change rooms, but an advisor, Greta (Miriam Silverman), refuses.

Ainsley calls her mother, Angela Norris (Ali Larter), who shows up and pushes for a waiver so Ainsley can live off campus. Greta says Ainsley needs a medical reason. Angela quickly claims “allergies,” and Greta agrees to draw up the paperwork. Angela then books Ainsley a luxury hotel room for the rest of cheer camp.

Meanwhile, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) travels to Louisiana for a launch-day celebration for M-Tex’s offshore drilling project. Cami (Demi Moore) hosts the event. Gallino (Andy Garcia) is also there, along with legal and insurance representatives who are closely watching how M-Tex uses its resources.

During the party, Cami pulls Tommy aside. She tells him she finally understands why her late husband, Monty, loved the oil business so much — the risk, the adrenaline, and the payoff. Tommy admits he used to chase that feeling too, but says he learned over time that the smartest move is avoiding that kind of risk.

Cami doesn’t agree. She tells him bluntly that the president of her company can’t be “averse” to the thing that built the business. Then she says, “You’re fired.”

The episode ends with the episode’s most disturbing moment. Ariana (Paulina Chávez) is attacked by a man behind the bar where she works. He forces her to the ground and tries to assault her. Cooper (Jacob Lofland) arrives in time and violently beats the attacker until Ariana begs him to stop.

The ‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale Predictions: What Episode 10 Could Focus On

The finale has a lot to resolve, but three storylines stand out.

First, Tommy’s firing changes everything. The show still hasn’t made it clear what Cami plans to do next. She may want Tommy out completely — or she may try to keep him around while stripping him of power. Either way, it’s hard to imagine M-Tex surviving a crisis without him.

Second, the offshore rig storyline seems like it’s headed for disastrous consequences. Episode 9 framed it as a huge gamble. The finale’s title, “Tragedy and Flies,” suggests something goes wrong — and the offshore project is the clearest place for a disaster to hit.

Third, Ariana and Cooper’s cliffhanger is not going away. That attack is likely to trigger legal fallout, emotional fallout, or both. It could also pull Tommy back into fixer mode, especially if Cooper’s actions put him at risk.

Paramount Plus’ official description for this new episode 10 of “Landman” season 2 reads like this, “Amid the chaos, Tommy regroups with Cooper.”

The “Landman” season 2 finale streams Sunday, January 18 on Paramount+.
