Ainsley’s College Cheer Camp Takes a Turn in ‘Landman’ Season 2 Episode 9
Ainsley gets her first taste of college life while attending a weeklong cheer camp at Texas Christian University (TCU). The experience goes sideways quickly when she meets her roommate, Paigyn, a sports medicine major. Paigyn explains that the housing assignment is not temporary — they will share the same dorm room again in the fall.
She also learns her roommate has strict expectations, including rules about food and music. Paigyn introduces Ainsley to their ferret and brings up pronouns before explaining the new living dynamic.
“This is my safe space, and I need my environment crafted to support my mental health,” Paigyn tells Ainsley.
Ainsley tries to stick it out, but she steps out of the room to accommodate Paigyn’s daily noon meditation. She then heads to the admissions office and asks housing advisor Greta (Miriam Silverman) to change her assignment. Greta declines and urges Ainsley to speak directly with her roommate.
Frustrated, Ainsley calls her mother. Angela Norris (Ali Larter) immediately steps in and goes straight to Greta’s office to demand a waiver from freshman housing so Ainsley can live off campus.
“That is by far my favorite [solution]. However, she requires a medical reason,” Greta says.
Angela quickly counters with a single word: “Allergies.”
Greta agrees to prepare the paperwork. Angela then books Ainsley a room at a luxury hotel nearby so she can finish cheer camp off campus.
Cami Fires Tommy During M-Tex Launch Celebration in Louisiana
While Angela helps Ainsley in Texas, Tommy travels to Louisiana for a launch event marking the start of M-Tex’s offshore drilling project. Cami (Demi Moore) hosts the celebration, bringing together Tommy, the company’s legal team, and investor Gallino (Andy Garcia).
Two representatives from M-Tex’s insurance firm, Blanton, also attend. The episode identifies them as Robert (Bradley Snedeker) and another colleague. Their presence matters because the insurer previously warned M-Tex about legal consequences unless it used its $400 million insurance payout to drill a new offshore well.
“This wasn’t what we meant when we said proof of launch,” Robert says to M-Tex attorney Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), referencing the lavish event.
Rebecca fires back, “Well, I’d say this proves it, though. Don’t you?
Hopefully, you see our commitment to honoring our obligations.”
The party becomes a moment of spectacle when the group watches the oil rig drift past and head into deeper waters. But the celebration does not last long.
As the rig moves past the event, Cami pulls Tommy aside. Tommy has pushed back on the offshore plan from the start, describing it as a gamble with only a 10% chance of success. The disagreement has created ongoing strain between them, and Cami uses the moment to draw a line.
Cami admits the adrenaline of betting on the well helped her understand what her late husband, Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), loved about the oil business. Tommy acknowledges he chased that same rush in the past, but says time in the field taught him to avoid it.
“You work for a company built on that risk. Built by my husband, who thrived on it, who built a fortune because of it,” Cami tells Tommy. “The president of my company can’t be averse to the very thing that built it. You’re fired.”
Tommy is left stunned as Cami walks away from the table.
Ariana Faces a Dangerous Confrontation as ‘Landman’ Season 2 Episode 9 Ends
The episode’s final moments shift to The Patch Cafe, where Ariana previously faced a hostile customer earlier in the season. In episode 3, the man made derogatory remarks toward Ariana while she was bartending, leading her to throw a glass at him and have him banned.
In episode 9, he resurfaces — and the situation turns dangerous. The customer corners Ariana in an alley behind the bar and forces her to the ground. The scene escalates as he attempts to sexually assault her.
Cooper arrives in time to pull the attacker off Ariana. He repeatedly punches the man while Ariana pleads for him to stop.
“Cooper, stop! You’re killing him. Don’t go to jail for this piece of (expletive), please. Don’t do that to me,” Ariana screams.
Cooper finally stops and helps Ariana up. As they cling to each other, the attacker groans, “I’m hurt.” Ariana steps away and kicks him hard in the gut.
The cliffhanger closes with the couple shaken but together, setting up a tense lead-in to the season finale.
The “Landman” season 2 finale airs Sunday, January 18, on Paramount+.
