Live Recap of ‘Love on the Amazon’ Premiere
Catch up on our live updates from “Love on the Amazon” when it premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, January 17, 2026:
The film begins in San Diego, California. Claire is leaving her sister Amelia a message. Days pass before she realizes that Amelia got a letter of acceptance for the fellowship she won for her research. But Amelia has to sign the paper in order to qualify. Claire realizes she has to deliver the letter to Amelia in the Amazon River.
Claire finds a captain, Captain Daniel, to deliver her to Amelia. She’s the Vice Principal at a school, so she has a week to go there and back before classes begin.
Claire arrives in Manaus, Brazil. She almost falls off the side of a dock, but Captain Daniel catches her before she lands in the water. She introduces herself and asks him to deliver her to the reserve where her sister works, but it’s three days in the wrong direction, they don’t usually go that way, and Danny usually only works with cargo deliveries, not people.
Claire finds another boat. While on the boat, she meets a couple. She finds out that their boat is actually making several stops, as it’s more of a luxury expedition cruise for tourists. But Claire doesn’t have that kind of time. She gets off at another dock, where she runs into Danny again. No one else wants to take her where she needs to go.
She offers Danny the refund she got from the luxury cruise to fix her boat so he can make his deliveries, but only if he takes her, too. She pleads with Danny, all out of options. He finally asks why she’s doing all of this, and she admits she’s doing it for Amelia. Danny is friends with Amelia. They shake hands after Danny agrees to take Claire to her sister.
Claire meets Danny’s crew, Bruno and Millie, who don’t like her at first. Danny tells Claire he can get her to Amelia in four days. They set off on their adventure. Danny warns Claire that the route she wants to take isn’t easy, as if gets them going over some intense rapids before they can turn. Danny doesn’t think Claire will even last a day, believing she’ll only last until their next stop.
Danny sets Claire up in the kitchen, as they don’t have guest quarters on the boat. She keeps busy by cleaning up the kitchen so she can go back to reading her book. Suddenly, the boat starts to rock back and forth. It gets to the point where boxes are toppling over and she’s unable to stand straight. Turns out, they’re going through the rapids.
While Claire is scared for her life, the rest of the crew isn’t taking it too seriously. She finds the life jacket, but it falls overboard. By the time they finally make it through, Claire is out of breath.
Danny thinks Claire will want to leave after going through the rapids, but she admits that was the most alive she’s felt in a long time.
Later that night, Claire is trying to read her book, when Danny finds her. She’s reading Jane Eyre. “Nothing like throwing you right into the thick of it,” comments Danny, on the beginning of the book. Claire reads a quote to him from the book that reminds her of Amelia, but Danny insists the quote is more about her. He sounds impressed by the lengths she’s gone through, so he believes she’s pretty independent.
The next day, Claire tries to talk to the crew, but they still haven’t warned up to her. Danny has picked up extra cargo along the way. She offers to help Danny with his delivery, wanting to tag along.
Claire and Danny go through one of the villages together. They meet a group of kids, and Claire shows them a book she was holding. She offers for them to keep it. In return, one of the little girls gives Claire a feather. It’s a big deal, as it symbolizes strength there.
They’re delivering to a school there in the village. The teacher they’re delivering to shows Claire inside the colorful classroom, where they’re being taught English. They speak a lot of languages in the Amazon. Claire compliments the school. She gives the teacher another book to help the children to learn English. Danny doesn’t take money from the teacher, wanting to do free deliveries since teachers are important. Claire tells Danny that she works at a school. She’s passionate about seeing the kids learning.
The next day, Claire wakes up and thinks she sees a snake on the table beside her. She calls Danny for help. But it’s not a snake. It’s an iguana.
Later, Danny tells Claire he made her breakfast. But it’s just coffee. “Strong and sweet!” Danny exclaims about the coffee. Danny gives Claire some bad news. They have to stay there until a storm passes. But she begs Danny to go, knowing that this could change Amelia’s life. So, they decide to get moving and try to beat the storm.
Suddenly, the boat stops. It’s all hands on deck. Claire tries to help the crew. She steers the boat while Danny and the rest of the crew push the boat free.
After this, Danny gets into an argument with Bruno, who ends up leaving over Danny’s decision to keep going because of Claire. Danny and Claire set off to Amelia’s office together.
On their way, Danny gives Claire a necklace to help repel bugs. A group of young boys invite Danny to play soccer with them, so he joins their game. He invites Claire to play, too. The two enjoy the playful game together.
Unfortunately, the storm begins and interrupts their game. The two rush underneath a hut to keep dry from the torrential downpour. Claire protects the grant in her bag, needing to keep it dry. Danny tells Claire that she’s “a very impressive” woman, and that he’s happy to help her. Claire gives him his payment, and he points her in the direction of her sister’s office. Claire asks Danny to take a video of her going into Amelia’s office.
Claire and Danny burst into Amelia’s office, but it’s empty.
Since Amelia isn’t there, they start to open up to each other. Danny admits that he wanted to be an oncologist, but he didn’t finish his degree. Claire is in awe that it’s taken this long for her to see Amelia’s work. She goes on to admit that their mother passed away when they were younger. They were close when they were kids, but they got older, and Claire didn’t realize how much she was missing her.
The door opens. They think it’s Amelia. But it’s Paolo, who knows Danny. Then, Paolo tells them that Amelia hasn’t been at this office in weeks.
Paolo tells them Amelia spends most of her time in the field. He tells Claire that Amelia is far away in Villa Victoria, and the journey is difficult, but Claire is determined to find a way. Danny thinks that they won’t make it on the boat without Bruno, but Claire offers to take over his place so they can keep going.
Claire realizes her entire suitcase full of books get wet when it was storming outside. In tears, she tells Danny that her sister never gave up on her, so she’s not going to give up on Amelia. Danny tells her that if she passes the crew test, then they can set off for Villa Victoria.
Millie finally comes to talk to Claire. She tells Claire she wants to become a captain some day. Millie helps Claire learn the knots she needs to do in order to pass the crew test, and Claire offers to help Millie with her English.
The next morning, Claire finds that Danny hung up all of her books to dry.
He goes on to give Claire the crew test, making sure she knows all the vocabulary terms around the boat. One of the tests is Claire tying the knot. When Danny tests it, he finds that it’s all good. Then, he wants to test her in the wheel house. Danny asks Claire to take the wheel. He gives her a few nautical tests where she has to steer the boat. Claire succeeds.
Danny tells her that she passed! He welcomes her to the crew, and Millie congratulates her.
As they continue on their journey, Claire is finally taking some time to look around and enjoy the nature around her instead of just keeping her head down in a book. Danny tells Claire that obligation is what stopped him from being a doctor, and Claire thinks she’s running away from obligation. But Danny disagrees, he thinks she’s running towards something she can’t see yet.
Danny realizes that Claire has been organizing his cargo. She jokingly tells him she can do more than “just tie knots.”
Claire tells Danny that Paolo told her they would never find Amelia’s exact location when landing in Villa Victoria, but she loses the map when it gets carried away by the wind. Luckily, she took a photo of it.
Later, Danny finds Claire in the kitchen, which is completely clean and organized now. She even made a chart for duties on the boat to keep things efficient. “I don’t need you to fix me,” Danny tells her, getting defensive, but Claire just wants to be part of the crew. He takes it back and apologizes, telling her it’s “sweet” what she did. She offers him a meal that she cooked. They say goodnight to one another, and he leaves.
Even later that same night, Claire hears Danny still up in the wheel house. He asks her to lend a hand so they can tie the boat up for the night. After, the two sit outside looking up at the sky. She apologizes for overstepping. But Danny admits he’s just not used to that “push,” since it’s what his dad used to do, and it drove him crazy. But he kind of needs it. Claire believes that’s what Amelia does for her. Claire recalls the times that she’s made mistakes that affected Amelia, but Amelia has always just shrugged it off. Claire sees this as her time to finally take care of Amelia, rather than the other way around.
Danny finally admits that he used to be part of Amelia’s research project. Amelia really believed in him, more than he believed in himself. She convinced him to go to school, but then his dad got sick, and he had to choose. So, he took over his dad’s boat, and he thinks he let Amelia down. Danny has been avoiding Amelia because he just couldn’t face her after that. But Claire thinks she’ll understand. Danny touches her hand as he thanks her.
Danny tells Claire that she’s part of the crew now, so he made up Bruno’s old room for her. She goes back onto the boat to go to bed, and he watches her go with a smile.
The next day, Claire and Danny pack up for their hike to Amelia. Before they leave, Claire gives Millie her book and thanks her. Then, Claire and Danny set off into the jungle.
They find a “wishing tree.” Danny tells her it’s tradition to put your hand on the tree and make a wish. When the wish comes true, you have to come back to the forest to thank them for their dream. They put their hands on the tree and make their wishes.
Later, Claire and Danny are still making their way through the jungle, but now it’s dark outside. Danny stops them, wanting to set up camp for the night. He doesn’t think it’s a good idea to keep traveling at night. Amongst the loud noises of the jungle, Claire thinks she hears her sister calling her name, so she runs off into the jungle. Danny has to go after her.
Danny warns Claire it might be the “guardian of the jungle,” but he’s just teasing her. They return to their campsite and settle into their respective hammocks for the night.
The next day, Claire tells Danny that their “adventure is almost over.” Claire says that she’d like to stay with Amelia before she returns home. Danny tells her there’s always a place for her on his boat. “We could see where the river takes us,” Danny says. Claire comments that that sounds like “the ending to a novel.”
They finally find the place that Paola marked down on the map. Matteo emerges from the building, who tells them that Amelia isn’t there. He offers to take them to her. But they have to travel light. So, Claire takes out all the books from her bag, and the three set off on a small boat across the river.
Claire finally sees Amelia, who is shocked to see her. The two sisters embrace in a tight hug, both emotional.
They catch up later that night. Amelia finalizes the paperwork that Claire brought for her. She thanks her, as they’ll be able to hire a new team and expand into more parts of the river with this grant. Danny overhears the two talking. Claire admits it was the most challenging but rewarding part of her life. Amelia asks if they’re together, but Claire strongly denies it. Danny hears this and storms off, upset. But what Danny doesn’t hear is that Claire is afraid to prolong things with Danny when she’s sure things will eventually end between them.
Claire finds Danny sitting alone in the jungle listening to music. The two slow dance together. “This is magical,” says Claire. She mentions his offer to go with him, but Danny thinks Claire should stay with her sister. Danny tells Claire it’s been a “privilege” watching her thrive here in the Amazon. They agree they’ll never forget this time, nor will they forget one another.
“In a different life,” they both say.
Claire and Danny say goodbye to one another. She puts her hand on his cheek. He kisses her wrist before rushing off.
The next morning, Claire admits to Amelia that she doesn’t want to go back home to her Vice Principal office. Amelia insists that a lot of the schools around there would love to have an English teacher. Claire remembers that she still hasn’t sent in Amelia’s letter yet, so she rushes off.
Meanwhile, Amelia goes to talk to Danny, who immediately apologizes to her for not reaching out. Amelia forgives him. She tells him not to “be a stranger” and returns the tape that he gave Claire. Before he leaves on a boat, Amelia asks if Danny actually wanted to leave the program. He didn’t, but he didn’t think he had a choice.
Claire successfully uploads the documents online. She video calls their dad back home and tells him that she likes who she is when she’s there. Their dad tells Claire that she can be anyone she wants to be and encourages her to be the sort of person she wishes she was.
Claire runs up to Amelia, wanting to go after Danny, but he just left. Suddenly, they spot a big snake. Amelia tells Claire to walk slowly to the boat, not wanting to startle the snake. So, Claire carefully sneaks by and eventually, she reaches the boat with Matteo.
Claire finds Danny’s boat and calls to him, waving her arms to get his attention. He runs to the side of the boat.
“What’re you doing?” Danny asks her.
“I’m writing my own ending!” Claire calls back.
Claire runs aboard the boat, and they share a passionate kiss after Claire tells him she’s not ready to leave yet. They both admit that this was their wish.
Back with Amelia, everyone’s there. Even Millie. Amelia asks Danny to consider working with them. He takes her up on her offer. Claire tells Danny that she delayed her Vice Principal contract to stay there with him, at least for the next year. They end the night dancing together, embarking on this next chapter hand-in-hand.
Watch the Sneak Peek of ‘Love on the Amazon‘
Watch a sneak peek of the film here:

Worse Hallmark moive. Kept waiting for it to become realistic…they’re in Amazon. Acting was junior high, Danny was the best. Very disappointed for Hallmark.
I worked in West Africa. Doesn’t the Amazon have mosquitoes that carry many deadly diseases? And one thermos for the trek through the rain forest? At least be realistic about the health risks of a challenging environment! As for the plot, it was a pleasant “happily ever after story,” which is typical of Hallmark, and why I like to occasionally watch their dramas….. The views of the river and nature were spectacular.
