Grammy and Oscar-Winning Icon in Talks to Perform at Oscars

Oscar winner Barbra Streisand may soon return to the Academy Awards stage for a deeply personal tribute to her late co-star Robert Redford.

Streisand, 83, is in talks to perform during the In Memoriam segment at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, where Redford — who died Sept. 16 at age 89 — is expected to be honored, a source told Page Six Hollywood.

Streisand Could Sing the Classic Song ‘The Way We Were’

If she appears, Streisand would likely sing the timeless title track from their 1973 romantic drama “The Way We Were,” the song that became synonymous with their onscreen love story.

“The Way We Were” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 46th Oscars in 1974.

The film also earned a win for Best Original Score, and Streisand received a Best Actress nomination for her performance as Katie Morosky opposite Redford’s Hubbell Gardiner.

Their chemistry helped turn the sweeping romance into a classic that continues to resonate decades later.

Both stars share a lasting legacy with the Academy.

Streisand has received 14 Oscar nominations and won twice — Best Actress for “Funny Girl” and Best Original Song for “A Star Is Born.”

Redford also took home two Oscars, winning Best Director for “Ordinary People” and later receiving an honorary award in 2002 recognizing his contributions to filmmaking.

Streisand’s Touching Tribute When Redford Passed

Following Redford’s death in September, Streisand reflected on their bond in a heartfelt Instagram tribute.

“Every day on the set of ‘The Way We Were’ was exciting, intense and pure joy,” she wrote. “We were such opposites: he was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them! Yes, we kept trying to find out more about each other, just like the characters in the movie. Bob was charismatic, intelligent, intense, always interesting — and one of the finest actors ever.”

She continued, “The last time I saw him, when he came to lunch, we discussed art and decided to send each other our first drawings. He was one of a kind and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.”

If confirmed, the performance would mark Streisand’s first Oscars appearance since 2013, when she honored composer Marvin Hamlisch with a moving rendition of “The Way We Were.”

The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will be held March 15 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

The ceremony will air live on ABC and stream on Hulu.
