Billy Crystal took the stage to honor his longtime friend and creative collaborator Rob Reiner, who passed away in December.
During the tribute, Crystal reflected on some of the most beloved films Reiner directed, including “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” and “When Harry Met Sally,” which famously starred Crystal alongside Meg Ryan.
“My friend Rob’s movies will last a lifetime, because they’re about what make us laugh and cry, and what we aspire to be,” Crystal said.
Crystal also acknowledged Reiner’s wife, Michele Singer Reiner, a photographer and progressive political activist. The tribute concluded with several fellow actors joining Crystal on stage. They linked arms just before the ceremony moved into the emotional In Memoriam segment.

The actor and singer, 83, reflected on the deep respect and admiration the two shared before beginning the performance.
Streisand last appeared on the Oscars stage 13 years ago, when she performed the same song to honor its late composer, Marvin Hamlisch, during the ceremony’s In Memoriam segment.
Redford earned an Academy Award for his directorial debut, “Ordinary People” (1980), and later received an honorary Oscar. Streisand presented him with that award during the 2002 ceremony.
The filmmaker, who also founded the Sundance Film Festival, died in September 2025 at the age of 89. Shortly after his passing, Streisand remembered him in a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.
“Every day on the set of The Way We Were was exciting, intense and pure joy. We were such opposites: he was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them! Yes, we kept trying to find out more about each other, just like the characters in the movie.
“Bob was charismatic, intelligent, intense, always interesting – and one of the finest actors ever.”
