Barbra Streisand’s Assistant & Their Working Relationship
Streisand is undoubtedly a loyal boss and has employed Renata Buser for five decades. Streisand has featured her assistant on her social media multiple times over the years. This includes posting a photo of Buser holding two dogs. “Renata…our Mary Poppins who takes care of all of us. Thank you! You’re the BEST!!!” Streisand wrote in a Facebook post on February 17, 2020.
She also celebrated Buser’s birthday on May 13, 2025, and highlighted their relationship with a Facebook post. “A very special birthday to my personal assistant of over 50 years (!!). I love and appreciate you Renata – more and more every day! Xo,” Streisand wrote.
Fans celebrated their working relationship in the comment section of the post. “If Barbra was as difficult as the media made her out to be, Renata wouldn’t have stayed for 50 yrs!” a fan wrote. “I read about renata in your book happy birthday to you renata such a valuable and wonderfully person you are,” another person shared.

How Barbra Streisand Met Her Personal Assistant
Buser is Streisand’s personal assistant, and they met not long after a rattlesnake bit Buser. She was still sporting a mark on her arm from where she had cut into her arm and taken out the venom. This impressed Streisand because it revealed the qualities she was seeking in a personal assistant.
“I saw she had two X’s on her arm,” Streisand said on a 2024 appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” American Songwriter reports. “I asked her, ‘What is that from?’ Where we lived in the country here, it was a rattlesnake bite. She had sucked it out herself. She made the cut.”
The “A Star Is Born” actress has credited Buser with helping her significantly throughout the years and discussed their relationship in her 2023 memoir, “My Name is Barbra.”
“There’s no way I could have done…much of anything…without Renata,” Streisand wrote. “She organizes everything…food, clothing, jewelry, dogs, packing and unpacking, setting up the hotel room…and she runs the entire household when we’re home and cooks the most amazing meals. She’s like a mother, a sister, and the absolute greatest assistant because she can do anything. As she says, ‘Just tell me what you want, and I’ll get it for you.’ She’s been with me going on fifty years, and she doesn’t even look forty.”
