Footage Shows Federal Prosecutors Arriving at Nancy Guthrie’s Home Ahead of Family’s Visit; Expert Explains Potential Reasons

Shortly before Savannah Guthrie and her sister made an emotional visit to their mother Nancy’s home on Monday and left flowers at her memorial, a small group of federal prosecutors were seen arriving at the premises. And two days after the family’s visit, the Sheriff’s Department announced they discovered the owner of the mystery glove that caused a flurry of speculation on February 11.

On Thursday, 12 News Arizona’s Sean Rice reported from the scene, “A source with knowledge of what took place here this morning tells me that prosecuting attorneys with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona arrived here in unmarked SUVs to get a lay of the land of what exactly Nancy Guthrie’s home looked like.”

He continued his report, “When I asked specifically what they were here for, I was told that they were doing, quote, standard legal advising to the FBI.” Rice said video shot by his station shows the prosecutors arriving at 9:30 a.m. on February 26. “We saw two black unmarked SUVs and a white unmarked SUV arrive here in Nancy Guthrie’s driveway. People in suits got out,” he recounted.

“They first went to the entryway area of her home,” Rice said, reminding viewers this was the area where the masked man was seen on the recovered security footage from Nancy’s Nest camera. He added some of the prosecutors took pictures of the entryway before making their way to the backyard and to the side yards, and also inspected a casita area.

For viewers wondering what prosecutors were doing at the house, he explained, “In high profile cases like this one, it is not uncommon for prosecutors to want to see the scene of a crime.” He added that he was told by a former prosecutor from the valley that he’s made such visits “countless times” in his career.

Expert Says Visit from Prosecutors Does Not Necessarily Mean an Arrst Is Coing

Former Arizona prosecutor Josh Kolsrud weighed in on whether the federal prosecutors would have any influence on the investigation, saying, “I do not think in any way shape of form that they are telling the FBI how to gather evidence or how to do their jobs. The only reason why they would be telling the FBI to do anything would be if there is a serious legal issue that the public is unaware of.”

Rice said Kolsrud told him that just because prosecuting attorneys were on the scene that an arrest may be imminent. Rather, he said Kolsrud called the prosecutors’ visit “pretty standard.”
