Sheriff’s Department Locates Owner of Mystery Glove Found Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home

Two days after Savannah Guthrie and her sister made a heart-wrenching visit to the home of their missing mother Nancy, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has released an update about the mysterious black glove that was discovered beside the roadway about a mile and a half from Nancy’s house.

In a Monday update to News 4 Tucson, Sheriff Chris Nanos said, “The owner of the glove we found was working at a restaurant across the street.” He did not identify the restaurant or the individual, but stated he believes the glove “has nothing to do with the case.”

Nanos dispelled previous reports that the glove was discarded by law enforcement during the search, saying, “There was some talk and discussion that it was police officers out in the field just discarding them. That is so far from the truth. We knew that at the time.” Nanos said even the time of the discovery, his department “believed wholeheartedly that those gloves belonged to a restaurant worker.” No restaurant workers have been identified as suspects in the case.

He added that the gloves in question are not the only ones being looked at. Others have been sent to a Florida lab where DNA testing could “take a while,” per the story. “It’s a challenge because we know we have DNA but now we have to deal with that mixture and how we’re going to separate it,” he explained.

The suspect seen in footage recovered from Nancy Guthrie’s security camera has been described by the FBI as “a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build.” The backpack he wore in the clip was identified as a a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.

Reporter Describes Latest Activity at Nancy Guthrie’s Home

In a March 4 interview, reporter Brian Entin, who has been stationed outside Nancy’s home for the past few weeks, detailed the recent new activity he witnessed. He said of the three men who were seen arriving at Nancy’s house on Tuesday and seemed to be assessing the scene, “I don’t believe they were law enforcement, based on what we saw. They went around to the side of the house.” He said the men seemed especially focused on the front door, where drops of blood were previously located near the threshold.

Entin said the men then went inside. “There was some speculation they were locksmiths. They were here for about an hour, and then they were gone,” he revealed.

Forensic Expert Suggests ‘Elder Abuse’ Theory

Forensic analyst Joseph Scott Morgan shared to News Nation that he believes the blood pattern left near Nancy’s front door is most likely “evidence of somebody probably coughing or sneezing out blood.” He added the blood is “not indicative of having a cut.”

He also shared he believes elder abuse is the most likely scenario, and that he believes a ransom motive is unlikely. Describing what he’s seen in past cases, he said, “I’ve had people that have taken advantage of the elderly, because they knew that they had money, and they bum-rush into their house and snatch them out of there.” He added, “She’s a much more valuable target to them if they have foreknowledge of whose mother she was. That doesn’t take a deep dive here. I think that comes to local knowledge.”
