Soap star Emmett J. Scanlan is mourning the death of the man he lovingly called his brother. The Irish actor, 47, shared the heartbreaking news Tuesday in an emotional Instagram post, opening up about his loss with fans. Scanlan did not hold back in expressing his grief.
Claire Cooper and Celebrity Friends Offer Support
“Fly free brother Georgy, you gorgeous sublime angel… I’ll miss the [expletive] bones of ye…,” he wrote.
The tribute quickly resonated across social media. Messages of support poured in from fans and fellow actors, including his former “Hollyoaks” co-star Jamie Lomas, as friends rallied around Scanlan during the difficult moment.
Scanlan’s wife, actress Claire Cooper, also honored Georgy with a heartfelt message of her own.
“Fly high, dear George. Like we talked about, the veil is so thin …closer than we think.
“Call on us sometime and let us know how you’re doing. Until then, rest easy, dear one, and enjoy that healing pool that awaits you.
“Thank you for being so dear to my husband and me. You will always be loved.”
In the hours that followed, messages of sympathy poured in from across the entertainment world. Dermot O’Leary, Gaby Roslin, Anna Friel, and Lucy Jo Hudson were among the familiar names offering support to the couple as they navigate their loss.
Back on Set After Devastating Loss
GettyThe Daily Mail reported that a day after sharing the devastating news, Scanlan was back on set. The actor was photographed filming season two of “MobLand,” the Paramount+ crime drama created by Ronan Bennett and executive produced by Guy Ritchie and Jez Butterworth.
Scanlan plays the head of security for the Harrigan crime family, led by Pierce Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan.
The series also stars Tom Hardy as fixer Harry Da Souza and Dame Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan. The cast includes Paddy Considine, Janet McTeer, Toby Jones, and Lara Pulver.
“MobLand” debuted last year and was officially renewed for a second season in June 2025.
Explosive Stunt Lights Up London During Filming
Filming for the new season recently drew attention after a large-scale stunt lit up the London skyline. The Daily Mail reported that a towering fireball consumed a warehouse near the River Thames as part of a carefully planned explosion scene.
Crews carried out the controlled blast near Newham, with emergency services on standby throughout the sequence.
One local recalled the shock of the moment. “We heard this massive bang, and the whole sky lit up orange.
“For a second, we thought something had gone terribly wrong – then we realised it was a film set. It was absolutely mental.”
For Scanlan, the intense production continues during a deeply personal time. As cameras roll on “MobLand,” he carries his grief quietly, honoring Georgy’s memory while pressing forward with his work.
