As a child, Savannah learned to play the piano and practiced tennis. Her father passed away when she was only 16 years old. In 2023, Savannah returned to her alma mater in Washington, D.C., to deliver a commencement speech to the graduating class. During which, she explained how taking a gamble on her interest in law led her to become one of the most successful anchors on television.

“Maybe law school was a big gamble for you, as it was for me,” she said, TODAY.com reported. “Or maybe, it was your safety net. Maybe it was your way of avoiding the scarier path. Whatever the case, I’m telling you, anything interesting you want to do, anything meaningful you want to accomplish, it is waiting for you, it is possible for you, but it is on the other side of a big risk, on the other side of a big bet.”

The broadcaster has intentionally kept her children away from social media and the spotlight, telling E! News in 2025 that her children are not allowed to use smartphones. “Of course they want all of that stuff. And I just want to hold off as long as possible for that,” she said.
