PHOTOS: ‘The Sandlot’ Star Patrick Renna Then & Now

Child actor Patrick Renna earned his claim to fame in the 1993 baseball film, “The Sandlot.” The ‘90s star was just 13 years old when he starred as Hamilton “Ham” Porter.

At 47, the former child star looks a bit different these days. However, he’s still rocking those same classic curls. Read on to see Patrick Renna, then and now.

Patrick Renna Became a ’90s Fan Favorite With ‘The Sandlot’

Patrick Renna rose to fame with the 1993 release of “The Sandlot,” one of the most iconic baseball films. He starred as Hamilton “Ham” Porter, the loud, confident catcher, with the nice curls. His performance quickly made him a standout among the young cast.

Renna delivered one of the film’s most quoted lines, “You’re killing me, Smalls,” which has remained part of pop culture for decades. The role cemented his place as a recognizable child actor during the ’90s, even as “The Sandlot” grew from a modest release into a cult classic.

Following the film, Renna continued acting throughout the decade. He also starred in the 1993 film “Son in Law” as Zach Warner, along with a handful of other TV shows and movies. However, none of these roles reached the same cultural impact as his role in “The Sandlot.”

Baseball Is Still a Big Part of Patrick Renna’s Life Today

More than 30 years after “The Sandlot,” Renna hasn’t tried to outrun his most iconic role. Rather, he’s embraced it and leaned heavily into his love of sports and storytelling.

He released a children’s book in 2025 centered around baseball life lessons, staying closely tied to the sport that made him famous. He’s also launched his own brand and foundation, Hambino Athletics, supporting youth sports, showing that his connection to the game goes beyond the screen.

On social media, Renna has found a whole new audience, too. His viral videos, often referencing “The Sandlot,” have helped him build a large following decades after the film’s release.

Patrick Renna Is a Family Man

Off-screen, Renna is a dedicated family man. Today, he lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife and children.

The former child star married his wife, Jasmin Sherman Renna, on October 6, 2006. The couple will celebrate twenty years of marriage this coming October.

After over a decade of marriage, the couple welcomed their first child, Flynn Maxwell Renna, in April 2017.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Patrick and Jasmin had their second son, Liam James Renna, in June 2020.

Last summer, the couple welcomed their third child and first daughter, Lily June Renna, in July 2025.

More than three decades after “The Sandlot,” Renna’s life looks very different from his days as Ham Porter. Still, his connection to the film, the game of baseball, and the fans who grew up quoting it hasn’t gone anywhere.
