The FX series “Love Story” drew criticism from members of the Kennedy family and those connected to them, but one figure portrayed in the show remained silent, until now.
Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, sister of John F. Kennedy Jr. and sister-in-law to Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, has shared her thoughts on the Ryan Murphy-produced FX series. She had a very surprising reaction.
Caroline Kennedy Had an Unexpected Response to ‘Love Story’
Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg’s son, Jack Schlossberg, shared his mother’s unexpected response to FX’s “Love Story” to reporter Katie Couric. He appeared on her podcast “Next Question With Katie Couric.”
Caroline was portrayed in the series by Grace Gummer, daughter of Meryl Streep. The character played a pivotal role as the moral compass for her brother John (Paul Anthony Kelly) prior to his marriage to Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon).
Schlossberg admitted that his family did not watch the nine-episode series. It chronicled the romance between Kennedy Jr. and Bessette, which fueled public fascination and reportedly led to difficulties in their relationship.
Schlossberg told Couric that he showed Caroline a clip. Her reaction was surprising.
“I showed her a clip of her [character],” he explained. “And we were laughing so hard.”
He continued, “The person was freaking out. And we’re just laughing so hard as if that’s how my mom acts.”
Schlossberg also discussed his father Ed’s portrayal in the film. Played by Ben Schenkman, the politician laughed, “They had my dad dressed up in some plaid outfit. My dad’s the most stylish guy I’ve ever met, so it’s funny.”
“The two nicest, most dignified, private people in the whole world,” he said of Caroline and Ed. “Who do nothing but help others.”
What Does Jack Schlossberg Think of The Cultural Impact ‘Love Story’ Had on Viewers?
Although Jack Schlossberg was just six years old when his uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr. and aunt Carolyn Bessette Kennedy perished in a plane crash, he realized their cultural impact even more than ever after “Love Story” premiered in February 2026.
He said that although his family wasn’t one of those who made “Love Story” the most-watched limited series ever on streaming, he has “no problem with anyone who liked the show or watched it.”
“I’m glad my uncle John was so cool,” Schlossberg claimed. “It’s not surprising that people—once they remember who he was—want to dress like him and be like him. He was awesome.”
Schlossberg continued, “He was a smart, attractive person who cared about politics and tried to blend politics and media in his time. Just like I’m trying to do right now with social media and politics and our campaign.”
“My issue is—we have a lot of serious problems facing our country, and my family, we’re not just celebrities,” he explained. “We’re not just icons. These are public servants,” he concluded.
Others close to the family who have spoken out against the series included Schlossberg, JFK Jr.’s former girlfriend Daryl Hannah, his cousin Douglas Kennedy, and his childhood friend Sasha Chermayeff.
