John F. Kennedy’s closest friend, Billy Noonan, believes he would have “loved” the FX drama “Love Story,” chronicling his relationship with and marriage to, Carolyn Bessette.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Noonan shared his thoughts on whether JFK Jr. would have been a fan of the saga. His answer may surprise fans of the series.

Billy Noonan said he watched the entirety of the series with a certain fondness. He recalled many of the on-screen moments depicted by actors Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly.
“I was laughing and sad at times,” Noonan said. Additionally, “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I remember that.’”
“They got her and him right. Those two actors that played them, I mean, I was really happy to see it because they looked so normal together,” he added.
“And when it was the two of them in the dialogue, it sounded just like them. Now, those two were on an island in this show. Anybody else that was portrayed [was] failed miserably, and I thought it was pretty cruel at times.”
As for what his best friend would have thought of the interest in his romance with Bessette? “[John] would’ve laughed,” Noonan said of the series. “We would’ve laughed watching.”
“I think it’s really cool; the kids running around with the sunglasses and the hats on backwards. I think that’s a riot. John would’ve loved it, too.”
JFK Jr.’s Best Friend Admitted Some Elements of the Series Strayed Far From the Truth
Billy Noonan, who famously took the video footage of John F. Kennedy’s ultra-private wedding to Carolyn Bessette in September 1996, says that for all of “Love Story’s” strengths, there were some elements of the series that strayed far from the truth.
Noonan believed that Daryl Hannah, Kennedy’s girlfriend of five years before he began dating Carolyn Bessette, was the opposite of how she was depicted. He told Rolling Stone, “They portrayed her as this nitwit Hollywood blonde, bringing strangers back to John’s house, having parties.”
“She wasn’t like that. Daryl Hannah was sharp as a tack. She didn’t drink alcohol. She hated cigarette smoke. If you lit up a cigarette, she’d leave. She’d say to you, go outside. I’ve been to Grateful Dead shows with Daryl Hannah, and there were all kinds of things going on around us. And she never touched any of them.”
Additionally, Noonan was unhappy with the way Kennedy’s mother, Jackie, was depicted. He admitted, “She stopped smoking after her half-sister Janet got cancer, and she didn’t drink. I mean, I saw her take a mouthful of wine, maybe at dinner, but she didn’t drink. And she never looked back.”
FXHowever, he did believe the show was correct in portraying how the paparazzi made Bessette a prisoner of the couple’s home. He claimed, “I don’t know if you’ve ever been around the paparazzi, but you feel like you’re being hunted.”
“You feel like you’re being pursued. I don’t think the press ever liked her. And I think they made her life miserable. And I think that getting her paranoid and isolated and alienated from John was what they wanted.”
