Singer-songwriter Benson Boone, who first caught fans’ attention on “American Idol,” was forced to cancel his Birmingham, England, concert at the last minute after suffering vocal and throat problems. The show, scheduled for Saturday night at the Utilita Arena, was part of his American Heart world tour.
GettyThe 22-year-old “Beautiful Things” singer was supposed to take the stage just an hour before announcing that he couldn’t perform due to his condition.
‘I Tried Everything to Revive My Voice’
In a statement shared on Instagram Stories, as per Rolling Stone, Boone apologized to fans and said he had done everything he could to recover in time for the show.
“Birmingham, I am so so sorry, but I will not be able to perform tonight,” he wrote. “I have tried everything I can to revive my voice, but I cannot give you the show I’d like to be able to give you with the condition of my throat right now.”
He continued, “This is genuinely the crappiest feeling. I am so sorry. I promise you I will do everything in my power to make it up to you. I’ll update you guys as soon as I can. Thank you for everything you do. I love you guys so much.”
Venue Confirms Cancellation & Plans to Reschedule
The Utilita Arena confirmed Boone’s cancellation in a statement to the BBC, noting that the team was “working through all possible options to reschedule.” The venue added, “We understand how disappointing this is and sincerely apologise for the extremely short notice and inconvenience caused.”
Fans had already begun arriving at the arena when the announcement was made, with many expressing support and wishing the singer a quick recovery online.
Future Tour Dates Remain Unclear
It’s uncertain whether Boone will return to the stage for his following three sold-out shows at London’s O2 Arena, set to kick off Monday. His European tour is scheduled to continue through November, with additional stops in Paris, Amsterdam, and Stockholm.
Boone’s North American tour wrapped in October, where he frequently surprised fans with live covers, including Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” during his Nashville performance.
Boone first gained attention on “American Idol” in 2021, where judges praised his natural talent and emotional voice. Though he left the competition early, the experience helped launch his career. Soon after, he signed with Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons and began releasing music that would make him one of pop’s fastest-rising stars.
Since his breakout moment on “American Idol”, he has quickly risen to global fame with hits like “Beautiful Things” and “Ghost Town.”
His devoted fans are now rallying behind him, sending well-wishes for a full recovery and eagerly awaiting his return to the stage.
