Carrie Underwood Urges Parents to Help Her End the ‘6-7’ Craze With Genius Move: ‘I Have the Cure’

Country superstar Carrie Underwood is on a mission. Not just to find the next “American Idol,” but to rid the nation of a viral sensation that’s driving parents and teachers crazy. Elementary and middle school kids across America have inexplicably become obsessed with any mention of the numbers six and seven together — whether someone’s counting, stating the temperature, giving a score, you name it.

Like many parents, Underwood has had enough of the viral trend. In a new promo for season 24 of “American Idol” released on November 20, 2025, the mom of two boys revealed her genius plan for putting the trend to rest.

Carrie Underwood Claims to Have the ‘Cure’ for the ‘6-7’ Trend But Needs Everyone’s Help

Underwood shares two boys with her husband Mike Fisher — 10-year-old Isaiah and six-year-old Jacob. They’re the perfect ages for the “6-7” trend, which now also includes a corresponding hand gesture (kids move their hands up and down with their palms facing the sky).

But in the newest “American Idol” promo posted on social media, Underwood revealed she has a plan for squashing the trend once and for all. Filmed while talking to educator Uzziah Hutchinson as he auditioned for her, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, Underwood sympathized with him as he said he hears “6-7” from his students “all day long.”

“Here’s how we stop that Uzziah,” she told him. “I have the cure! Every time the kids say ‘6-7,’ we have to immediately say ‘5-3-0-9.'”

Underwood thinks turning the tables on kids by singing part of Tommy Tutone’s 1981 hit “867-5309/Jenny” might do the trick.

Laughing, Hutchinson said, “That’ll work!” as Underwood insisted, “If we all band together and do that, it will stop. It’s gonna take all of us.”

Fans Are Totally Behind Carrie Underwood’s Idea

On the video of Underwood posted by the “American Idol” social media account, many fans and friends reacted to the superstar’s idea, including one who hilariously wrote, “Carrie already making the new season a better place for the world!”

Another fan wrote, “My bus of students is about to feel the pain lol ❤️ this! ‘5309’”

“Oh 100% I just did it and my son gave me a dirty look,” someone else commented. “It’s working people it’s working!”

Hopefully the fad will be a distant memory by the time Underwood and her fellow judges return for the new season of “American Idol,” set to premiere on January 26, 2026.
