Inside Carrie Underwood’s Massive ‘American Idol’ Empire

Country singer Carrie Underwood has certainly come a long way since winning Season 4 of “American Idol” in 2005. In the twenty years since, she has built a massive music empire. She even brought her journey full circle by landing a spot at the judges’ table on the series that made her famous. Her climb from virtual unknown to superstar has helped her amass plenty of wealth, and Celebrity Net Worth reports that she is worth approximately $120 million. Let’s take a look inside Underwood’s success story.

Of course, a major source of Underwood’s wealth is her music, and she recently achieved a new sales milestone. As Country Wire reported, she is now the highest-selling female solo country artist ever, surpassing Shania Twain’s impressive record of 61.5 million units with 72 million of her own as of August 2025.

This record is measured by RIAA certifications, and is undeniably impressive. However, album sales are only part of the story; Underwood is also handsomely paid for live performances. As Billboard reported, her 2019 “Cry Pretty” tour alone grossed approximately $50 million.

Underwood’s return to “American Idol” as a judge was an undoubtedly emotional move, but it was also financially beneficial. As The U.S. Sun shared, the star earned somewhere between $10 and $12 million for her work on the series in her first season. As of August 25, 2025, Underwood was set to return for another round in Season 24, which premieres in early 2026.

As if “American Idol” and touring weren’t enough to keep Underwood busy, she has also made plenty of smart decisions when it comes to endorsement deals. For example, as her official website shared, she became a global ambassador for Almay in 2014. ” I love Almay’s positive approach to beauty because it’s so important to celebrate our natural beauty and enhance what makes us unique,” Underwood said at the time. She has also partnered with Target, Olay, and multiple other brands over the years. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Underwood has earned tens of millions of dollars from brand deals alone.

She Still Tries to Lead a Low-key Life

Celebrity status isn’t synonymous with low-key living, but Underwood does try to keep a balance. As Country Living reported in 2023, the multi-millionaire still has a very “normal” home life in many ways when she’s not on the road. “The kids go to school, my husband usually takes them,” she explained. “The second they leave I gotta vacuum. I make their beds and check their rooms—make sure there aren’t wet towels on the floor.” She also highlighted her passions for cooking and growing food on their property. “That’s what I enjoy doing, and I want them to remember that,” she said of her boys.
