Season 24 of “American Idol” is officially in full swing, with judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood already discovering a new crop of standout contestants with powerhouse vocals. Still, fans haven’t forgotten about last season’s talent, and many are thrilled to see their former favorites continuing to chase and live out their dreams.
John Foster and Breanna Nix, who finished as the runner-up and third-place finalists last season, recently reunited for a duet that fans can’t stop talking about. The pair performed a stunning rendition of Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss’ “Whiskey Lullaby,” with viewers admiring their emotional take on the country classic.
John Foster & Breanna Nix Reunite With Emotional Rendition of ‘Whiskey Lullaby’
“American Idol” season 23 runner-up John Foster and third-place finalist Breanna Nix came together for an amazing duet that showcased just how beautifully their voices complement one another. The fan-favorites joined forces to sing the somber and powerful ballad “Whiskey Lullaby,” originally recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss in 2003.
With Foster’s pure country tone and Nix’s soaring vocals, the Idol alums leaned into the song’s haunting storytelling, blending their voices into a deeply moving harmony that echoed the original’s emotional power.
Fans were in awe of their performance and quickly flooded the comment section with praise.
“This fill[s] my heart w[ith] so much joy ๐,” a fan wrote. “Beautiful duet. Yall should do more together,” another fan shared. “Saddest song ever written โค๏ธ beautifully sung,” a comment read.

Foster and Nix have teamed up for duets before. Following their time on “American Idol,” the finalists delivered a heartfelt rendition of “I Told You So,” originally recorded by Randy Travis. Nix shared a clip of the moving performance on Instagram.
What Are Foster & Nix up to Today?
Although neither Foster nor Nix took home the “American Idol” crown, that doesn’t mean their dreams of becoming successful artists are over. The show has a history of launching stars who didn’t win but still went on to achieve major success.
Following his Idol run, Foster has continued to perform across the U.S. and made his Grand Ole Opry debut in June 2025. He also released a new honky-tonk single, “Little Goes a Long Way,” in October 2025, marking his first release since his debut single, “Tell That Angel I Love Her,” which he launched during his time on Idol.
In January, Foster shared on Instagram that he hopes to deliver new music to his fans. “2025 was a year full of blessings for me, and I’m going to work very hard to see that 2026 is even better for us,” he shared.
As for Nix, the Christian country singer released her single, “Higher,” in May 2025, shortly after “American Idol” wrapped. She followed it up with her second release, “Another Mile,” in November 2025, accompanied by a music video.
