Jennifer Hudson Announces Exciting Role in Broadway’s ‘Dreamgirls’ Revival
On February 11, Jennifer Hudson announced her exciting return to Broadway — as a producer.
“I am so excited to announce that I have joined the extraordinary producing team on the upcoming revival of ‘Dreamgirls,’ returning to Broadway for the first time since it opened 45 years ago!” she shared in the caption.
Hudson added, “This story changed my life. And now to help bring it to a new generation means more than I can put into words! Don’t miss @dreamgirlsbroadway this fall!!!”
“Twenty years ago, my life changed forever because of a film called ‘Dreamgirls,'” Hudson shared in a statement.
She continued, “Inspired by the iconic stage musical, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to portray the one and only Effie White — a woman whose story and voice remain an ever-present force in my life. I am beyond honored to join the extraordinary producing team behind this special, newly reimagined Broadway revival, and to help bring ‘Dreamgirls’ back to the stage through the visionary direction and choreography of Camille A. Brown. This fall cannot come soon enough.”
Hudson won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Effie White in the 2006 film adaptation of “Dreamgirls.”

In the clip from “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the host shared, “This fall, ‘Dreamgirls’ is coming back to Broadway for the first time since it opened 45 years ago in 1981 — the year that I was born actually. And now it’s being reimagined for a whole new generation, which I am so excited about.”
She continued, “And now I finally get to tell you that … I am a producer on the team for the revival of this iconic musical.”
