During a September 14 interview with “Entertainment Tonight” on the 2025 Emmy Awards red carpet, McEntire shared some new details about how Clarkson and her kids are doing following Blackstock’s passing.

Blackstock, McEntire’s former stepson, died on August 7 after a three-year battle with cancer.

When asked how the family is coping since the tragic loss, McEntire shared, “Well, we miss him. We miss him every minute.”

“The Voice” coach also shared how Clarkson’s children are navigating their grief. “The kids are doing well. They’re all bonding together and hanging out with each other, and taking it one day at a time. We know God’s got this,” she explained.

Brandon Blackstock Tribute Remembers Him as a ‘Devoted Father’

The obituary shared by Axelson Funeral & Cremation Services celebrated Blackstock’s career and life, including his role as a “devoted father.”

“Narvel Brandon Blackstock peacefully passed to be with the Lord on the morning of August 7th, 2025, after a brave and courageous 3-year battle with cancer,” the tribute began. “He was surrounded in his home by his family, who comforted him and lovingly handed him off to his grandparents in heaven, who welcomed him home.”

The tribute detailed his “career in the music business” and his move “back to the mountains and the cowboy way of life he always wanted to live.”

“He was honest and earnest. He was loyal, hardworking, and loved hard,” the obituary shared, in part.

The tribute continued, “But never did his star shine brighter than in his role as a father. Nothing mattered to Brandon more than his four beautiful children, Savannah, Seth, River, and Remy. To say he was devoted seems cliché. It feels like an overused word, but it is the correct word.”

“He was a devoted father. His four children were and will always be his greatest love and his greatest legacy,” the obituary read.

The tribute also mentioned Blackstock’s grandchildren, noting, “Lake, Julie, and LouCasey — who is on the way … they made him a ‘Pa’ … and he was born to be a ‘Pa.'”
