Ryan Seacrest is navigating an emotional time following the death of his father, Gary Lee Seacrest. The “Wheel of Fortune” and “American Idol” host has continued to fulfill his professional commitments while paying quiet tribute to his dad.
Seacrest Bravely Moves On
In a recent video shared by The Nashville Experience, Seacrest was seen greeting fans and shaking hands during a campus visit to Belmont University in Nashville, where cameras followed him and his co-stars. Another clip showed the host smiling and waving to students.
Despite the heartbreak, Seacrest has been focused on his work, promoting upcoming projects including Season 24 of “American Idol.” On Instagram, he shared the new premiere date, writing, “Dreams come true at – IDOL U – and we’re about to meet the new class! #AmericanIdol starts Monday, January 26 on ABC and streams on Hulu!”
The Passing of Gary Lee Seacrest
The beloved TV host confirmed his father’s death in an emotional Instagram post on October 31. “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week,” Seacrest wrote. “My mom, sister, and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering. We are heartbroken.”
Alongside the heartfelt caption, Seacrest shared a series of family photos featuring his father, mothe,r Constance Marie Zullinger, sister Meredith Seacrest, brother-in-law Jimmy Leach, and niece Flora Leach.
He also reflected on his father’s devotion to family, writing, “He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend. Dad, you will live in our hearts forever. I love you.”
Seacrest Previously Shared His Father’s Health Battle
Earlier this year, Seacrest opened up about his father’s private battle with prostate cancer during his On Air with Ryan Seacrest radio show. “My dad is about 80 years old, and I have a very close relationship with my father,” he shared in July. “And my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer years ago and started his treatment. It didn’t get better. It got worse, and it spread. It didn’t go well for him.”
The host revealed that he received news of his father’s health crisis while taping “American Idol.” “I was on an American Idol show live during last season, and my sister called me and said, ‘Dad is in the ICU. How fast can you get here’” Seacrest recalled. “I finished the show. We were almost done. I couldn’t even remember what I was saying on the show. It was like robotic at that point.”
A Legacy of Love & Strength
In the same radio interview, Seacrest spoke about the love between his parents and their unwavering bond throughout his father’s treatment. “I watched them over the weekends send photos of smiling and happiness and being together,” he said. “They’ve been married for 55 years. And they’ve got each other.”
He added that his parents found peace in the simple things. “They’re just happy to sit together looking at an ocean. And I just want to share that because I’ve been holding that in for a long time.”
While continuing to juggle his projects on “Wheel of Fortune” and “American Idol,” Seacrest has made it clear that family remains at the center of everything he does.
