PHOTOS: ‘American Idol’ Stars & Crew We Lost in 2025

There were some big losses in 2025 for the “American Idol” family. As we get ready to say goodbye to another year, we wanted to look back at those we said goodbye to in 2025. Take a moment to remember them and memorialize them during this transition to a new year.

From a contestant whose raw emotion captivated millions to a behind-the-scenes music supervisor who helped shape the sound of the show for more than a decade, these are two “American Idol” alums who sadly passed away.

Doug Kiker (American Idol Season 18 Contestant)

Doug Kiker was known to the “American Idol” community as the “Singing Garbage Man.” Fans were shocked to find out the 32-year-old singer had passed away on March 10, 2025.

Kiker appeared on season 18 of the show, winning over both fans and the country. During his audition, he performed “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts. The performance brought judge Katy Perry to tears. He went on to receive a golden ticket to Hollywood.

While his audition is one of the standout moments in recent “American Idol” history, Kiker never made it to the live shows that year. His performance was just so raw and real; people just connected with it and him.

After his time on “American Idol,” Kiker continued to share his music and life with fans on social media. After learning of his death, fans paid tribute to him online, often praising his skills and kindness. He is survived by his two daughters.

Robin Kaye (American Idol Music Supervisor)

For many years, Robin Kaye was a highly respected music supervisor for “American Idol.” In a terrible double homicide in July 2025, she and her husband, Thomas Deluca, died.

For more than ten years, Kaye was a pillar of the Idol family. From 2009 until 2023, she contributed to the soundtracks of about 300 episodes and received praise from the music business.

She worked on programs including “Lip Sync Battle” and “Hollywood Game Night” in addition to “American Idol.” She also contributed to well-known events, including the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants.

Colleagues, contestants, and peers in the industry all adored and respected Kaye. The entertainment industry was rocked by her unexpected passing.

She was “truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her,” according to a statement the show made at the time. The innumerable musical and emotional moments she helped bring to life on television will carry on with her legacy.
