Brittany Cartwright is never one to miss a chance for a laugh—even when it comes to love and money. “The Valley” star recently shared a viral meme that cheekily addressed Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s whirlwind engagement news.
Cartwright posted a photo of a woman holding a cardboard sign reading, “Taylor, get a Prenup” on her Instagram Story. To drive the point home, she paired the post with Swift’s classic song “Love Story.”
The playful jab comes with a layer of irony given Cartwright’s own divorce from estranged husband Jax Taylor. The couple, who chose not to sign a prenup when they wed in 2019, are still in the middle of divorce proceedings.
Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s Divorce Drama
While the meme was lighthearted, it hit close to home. Taylor once proclaimed that he did not believe in divorce, but fast forward to today, and he’s both navigating a split and facing accusations of shirking responsibility.
At “The Valley” reunion, Cartwright revealed in unseen footage that Taylor admitted he was “prolonging” their divorce. She claimed, “He didn’t know if he was gonna get kicked off the show. So, he was prolonging it in case he needed to get alimony from me.”
Taylor clapped back at that narrative, saying, “I was prolonging it because of the podcast, not the Bravo series,” before adding that Cartwright currently makes more money than he does. He even implied that if Cartwright were to get full custody of their son, he would pursue alimony rather than pay child support.
As of July, Cartwright confirmed that their divorce is not finalized, though the two have a court date set for October.
Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Need a Prenup According to an Expert
Cartwright’s joke may have been in good fun, but experts say her advice has merit. Attorney Julia Rodgers, founder of HelloPrenup, explained to The U.S. Sun, that a prenup is critical for high-profile couples like Swift and Kelce.
“For couples worth billions, a prenup isn’t just about money—it’s about protecting privacy and clearly defining future earnings,” Rodgers said. “A confidentiality clause ensures neither party can exploit personal details, while financial clauses help preserve the empire each of them built.”
With Swift’s net worth estimated at $1.5 billion and Kelce’s fortune near $70 million, Rodgers notes it’s important to separate assets like Swift’s $150 million real estate portfolio and Kelce’s Kansas City home, while still carving out space for shared ventures.
“It’s a way to keep the focus on their love story, without financial worries getting in the way,” Rodgers added.
On Tuesday, August 26, Swift announced the engagement on Instagram—two weeks after Kelce proposed—with a carousel of photos and a caption that read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
