SEE: Captain Jason Chambers Gives Update on His Cancer Journey

“Below Deck Down Under” star Captain Jason Chambers is reflecting on one year since his melanoma diagnosis, sharing gratitude and positivity after having caught it early.

The beloved Bravo star was diagnosed with the type of skin cancer in December 2024, after noticing a spot on the left side of his chest that had changed over time. Now, having a clean slate of health, Chambers uses his platform to raise awareness about cancer and the importance of supporting those facing it.

Jason Chambers Marks One Year Since His Melanoma Diagnosis

Captain Jason Chambers is marking one year since his melanoma diagnosis in December 2024. Taking to Instagram, the “Below Deck” star shared a bold photo of himself on a hospital bed, draped in a sheet with a hole revealing the abnormal growth on his left side.

Alongside it, Chambers posted a close-up of the spot that turned out to be cancer, highlighting how a spot that may seem harmless to the eye can actually be more serious and deserves attention.

“Wow a lot can happen in a year, looking back I was lucky after a few visits to tackle this melanoma, not everyone is so lucky,” he captioned his post. “So this #GivingTuesday, I’m proud to support the @AmericanCancerSociety. You can, too. Visit cancer.org to learn how.”

In an interview with People in February, Chambers shared how he felt “silly” and “stupid” for not being more careful about the dangers of skin cancer.

“Personally, I feel a little bit silly and stupid about it — as someone that’s worked on the water, someone that’s Australian — that I actually didn’t know the severity of skin cancer and I thought that I was immune to it,” Chambers said. “I kind of look back at myself and go, really?”

He added, “I was like, wow. I should know this. I’m out in the sun all day. How did I think that I was going to be unique to everyone else?”

Chambers told the outlet that a friend noticed his spot and urged him to get it checked out. After a biopsy, he learned that he had melanoma, a major type of skin cancer. Thankfully, Chambers caught it early and had two procedures done to remove the cancer. Now, the captain has a large scar as a reminder.

Fans got a glimpse of what’s in store for “Below Deck Down Under” season 4 when the ladies of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” boarded Chambers’ yacht in a special crossover featured in season 5.

Helping Chambers keep the yacht afloat and running smoothly includes “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” star and chief stew Daisy Kelliher, beloved chef Ben Robinson, and fan-favorite João Franco, who returns as second officer.

During BravoCon 2025, fans got an exclusive sneak peek of what to expect for season 4. A clip showed Chambers meeting with his three department heads before boarding the yacht and sailing around Canouan.

Chambers made it absolutely clear that he demands respect and teamwork with Kelliher, Robinson, and Franco. “Yachting runs on leadership, teamwork, and respect. And that starts with the top. I can’t have what happened last year with my heads of department at each other,” he shares.

However, the clip teased Kelliher and Franco’s budding romance might create friction between her and Robinson this season. At the same time, Robinson’s ego faces serious challenges.

“Below Deck Down Under” season 4 premieres on Feb. 2, 2026 on Bravo.
