Bravo premiered “Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard” in May 2023. The series lasted for two seasons before being put on pause, or in other words, effectively canceled by the network. Among the cast was Preston Mitchum. Now, he’s opening up about learning that Bravo wasn’t renewing “Summer House: MV” for a third season and how he feels about it ever returning.
Preston Mitchum Suspected ‘Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard’ Would Be Canceled
GettyMitchum appeared on the “Undomesticated” podcast, which is hosted by “Real Housewives of Potomac” alum Candiace Dillard Bassett, in May 2026. During the episode, Bassett asked the former “Summer House: MV” star about the show having been put on pause. Click here for the clip.
In response, he stated that they “jumped on a call” with production. According to him, “My heart already was pounding because I knew already we had not gotten, like our numbers were similar to season one, but also the advertising was down, the marketing was down.”
From there, Mitchum stated that he knew the communication with production “was not a renewal call,” stating, “I didn’t feel that was the energy that was coming with.” In recalling the conversation, the former Bravo star stated that they were only told that they were being “put on pause.”
Regarding the rest of the cast, Mitchum says he believed they were hopeful that the series would return for a third season. He went on, “Everyone was frustrated.” After that, he said that, in his opinion, being put on pause is simply a nice way for Bravo to cancel a series while also giving fans hope, which has worked out in the past with “The Real Housewives of Miami.”
Toward the end of this section of the interview, both Mitchum and Bassett noted that it was roughly a decade before RHOM returned for its reboot after the network paused it.
Bravo Paused The Show in 2024
Season two of “Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard” concluded in May 2024. Days after the Andy Cohen-hosted reunion special, Deadline reported that Bravo had decided against greenlighting a third season. However, the report noted that the show had not been canceled.
The outlet also stated that the cast had to persuade the network to allow them to have a reunion, as they had unresolved issues with one another. Deadline also noted that Bravo hit pause on other shows in 2024. This includes “Winter House” and “Vanderpump Rules,” although VPR was recast instead of placed on an extended hiatus.
So, why did Bravo not greenlight a third season of “Summer House: MV?” There has never been an official reason given. However, as Mitchum stated in his “Undomesticated” podcast, the show never gained the viewership all involved parties wanted.
According to TV Deets, the second-season premiere drew 308,000 viewers and a 0.09 rating in the 19-49 demographic. The season then peaked with the third episode, garnering 340,000 viewers. However, as the weeks passed, the rating sagged, with the reunion attracting 237, 000 viewers.
For comparison, the original “Summer House” averaged 457,000 viewers in its eighth season, which also aired in 2024.
