Cher has scored a small victory on Tuesday, September 1 in her latest bid to protect her son’s health and finances, and to prevent his estranged wife, singer Marieangelea King, from gaining control. Cher has filed documents indicating she believes King does not have Allman’s best interests at heart.

The future of Elijah’s estate was not decided at today’s hearing, and the case has been continued to December 1.

Page Six says Elijah, who has been hospitalized since at the psychiatric facility New Hampshire State Hospital since early March of 2026, did not attend court on Tuesday. At that hearing, his 80-year-old mother Cher won was granted her request for his conservatorship case in Los Angeles to be put on hold. Meanwhile, a separate guardianship case in New Hampshire is underway, the outlet reports.
The report explains Cher is attempting to place the financial affairs of her son, who receives over $100,000 annually from a trust fund set up by his late father, under court supervision by seeking a conservatorship over his estate.
The judge announced she would appoint new council for Elijah due to his current representation failing to show for the hearing. She previously denied Elijah’s request to represent himself.
Last summer, People reported they were told by sources that Cher was doing everything in her power to help her troubled son.

Cher is currently fighting back legally against his efforts by his estranged wife, musician Marieangela King, to gain control over his estate. Elijah is seen above with his ex in a post she shared at Thanksgiving 2024, before she filed for divorce the following April.
People says they obtained documents recently filed by Cher that say she opposes King’s bid to gain conservatorship powers in New Hampshire because “the family believes that she is inserting herself back into the picture on a quest for money and/or a bit of fame.”

Cher once revealed on “Dr. Phil” that she raised Elijah as a single mom along with her and Sonny’s son Chaz, who is 7 years older, saying, “His father was not there. He never saw his dad.” The Daily Mail says Elijah shared in 2014, “I’ve forgiven him for that. I’ve seen my dad a lot more in the last year then I have in a long time. That was something that was absent when I was growing up and it’s important to mend fences now in our relationship.”
Gregg died 3 years later on May 27, 2017 from liver cancer. Cher reacted by writing on her Twitter account in her signature all-caps style, “IVE TRIED… WORDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE GUI GUI. FOREVER, CHOOCH.”
