2026 Tony Awards Snubs Include “Proof” and Lea Michele
Alongside the nominees, several omissions drew attention.
The revival of “Proof,” starring Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri, received no nominations. The production was directed by Thomas Kail and marked a theatrical effort from Higher Ground Productions.
Lea Michele was also not nominated for her role in “Chess,” despite expectations from some observers. Her co-stars Bryce Pinkham, Nicholas Christopher, and Hannah Cruz all received nominations.
“Beaches, The Musical” was also shut out. The production had struggled to gain traction with audiences, playing to 64 percent capacity last week.
“Queen of Versailles,” led by Kristin Chenoweth, was not nominated after closing earlier in the season.
