‘Desperate Housewives’ Star Teri Hatcher Recalls Missing Out on Broadway Stardom: ‘Maybe I’ll Get Another One’

Actress Teri Hatcher is best known for her roles in “Desperate Housewives” and “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.” But in another lifetime, she could’ve been a famous Broadway star.

During “The Balusters” big premiere on Broadway this week, Teri Hatcher opened up about her own dreams of being on stage. Although she turned down one opportunity, she sincerely hopes she will get a second chance someday.

Actress Teri Hatcher is content with how her life and career have played out. However, there is an experience on her bucket list that she has yet to achieve.

“I was thinking that I’ve always said my biggest regret, because I don’t believe in regret, but after I originated the tour of Sally Bowles in ‘Cabaret’ from the Rob Marshall, Sam Mendes production back in like 1999… I did that in four cities over seven months with Norbert Leo Butz,” the “Desperate Housewives” star shared with PEOPLE.

While Teri Hatcher enjoyed her time on the road, she ultimately chose to be at home with her daughter, Emerson.

“It was an amazing experience,” Teri continued. “At the end of that, they asked me to come to Broadway, and I didn’t, because I had a young toddler. I’d already done it for seven months, and I was exhausted. But I look back and I think that was my chance to be on Broadway.”

However, the actress knows she still has many successful years ahead of her. She’s not quite ready to close the door on that dream. Now that Emerson is an adult, Teri Hatcher doesn’t need to be at home with her.

“So maybe I’ll get another one,” she told PEOPLE. “I hope so.”

The Actress Supports Her “Desperate Housewives” Co-Star on Broadway

While Teri Hatcher eagerly awaits her own turn on the Broadway stage, she’s happy to cheer on another “Desperate Housewives” alum in the meantime.

Ricardo Chavira played Carlos Solis, who was married to Eva Longoria‘s character. Teri Hatcher told PEOPLE that she felt honored they stayed friends after all these years.

“I’m so excited to get to be here tonight because it’s a version of a second act, having your Broadway debut at 54 years old with a play written by a Pulitzer Prize winner. It’s really amazing,” she said of Chavira’s Broadway performance.

On Instagram, Ricardo Chavira posted with Teri Hatcher and another “Desperate Housewives” alum, Mark Moses. He expressed excitement and gratitude that his old friends came to see him.

“Reunited! Can’t begin to express my joy at having @officialterihatcher and @themarkmoses show up for my opening night on Broadway @mtc in The Balusters,” the 54-year-old posted on Instagram. “And thank you to @broadwaybruce_ for snapping a quick photo of the reunion. Gotta get all the men from DH to show up so we can go catch a ball game together here in the Big Apple 🍎.”

“You and the show were amazing! So happy for you❤️” Teri Hatcher replied in the comments.
