Inside Her Historic ‘Moulin Rouge!’ Run

“Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” based on Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film, features a jukebox-style score with pop hits like “Your Song,” “Firework” and “Chandelier.” Per Variety, producers have hinted that audiences may hear a “hint” of Megan’s own music woven into the show during her run.

The Tony-winning production originally opened on Broadway in 2019 and has since become one of the longer-running shows in recent history. The role of Zidler was originated by Tony winner Danny Burstein and has also been played by Tituss Burgess, Boy George and Wayne Brady. Bob the Drag Queen is currently in the role through March 22 before Megan steps in.

Producer Carmen Pavlovic described Megan’s casting as a historic moment and part of the show’s closing celebration, telling Variety that the production wanted to go out with a “spectacular bang.”

For her part, Megan made it clear she’s ready for the challenge, saying Broadway demands “a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling,” but adding that she “can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side” of her.
