Dakota Johnson is making way for the new. The “Materialists” actress has listed her Midcentury Modern home in Hollywood for $6 million, according to Realtor.com.
Johnson has been living in the 3,200 square foot home built in 1947 by architect Carl Maston, who previously occupied in the house, for a decade. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home is a “masterclass in California modernism where warm woods, poured concrete, and wood-framed glass walls dissolve the boundary between indoors and out,” according to the listing. The house, nestled in the hillside, is perfect for indoor, outdoor living, with a pool, hot tub, and barbecue space just outside of its floor-to-ceiling windows.
Yes, This Is the House From the Memes
Even if you don’t follow celebrity real estate, there’s a decent chance you’ve seen this house online, and not just for interior inspiration. The home launched a green kitchen trend when Johnson took “Architectural Digest” on a tour six years ago.
In addition to the jaw-dropping views of the Hollywood Hills and stunning original architectural features, the video caught attention for the actress’ quirky personality.
At one point, Johnson’s hand hovers over a couple of dozen limes prominently displayed on her kitchen countertop. “I love limes. I love them,” the “Suspiria” actress declares in a deadpan voice. “They’re so great. I love them so much, and I like to present them like this in my house.”
The clip went so viral that Jimmy Fallon asked the actress to address her relationship with citrus on “The Tonight Show.”
“I actually didn’t even know that they were in there. I went into the kitchen. It was set dressing,” she told Fallon. “I’m allergic to limes.” When the host pushes Johnson, she explains that she’s “mildly allergic” to limes (and honeydew melon), and the fruits cause her tongue to itch.
During the house tour, Johnson shows off orange and lemon trees in her backyard, but does not address where she stands with the fruits.
Johnson Stayed True to the Home’s Style
The actress revealed to AD that some of the furniture, including the living room couch and coffee table, came with the house.
Johnson worked with the design team Pierce and Ward, which is co-owned by Johnson’s longtime friend Emily Ward, to accentuate the home’s original vision while bringing it into the 21st century.
“Dakota was extremely fun to work with because she had a very clear vision of what she wanted,” Ward told “Architectural Digest.” “We basically made mood boards and came over for fabric-selecting. And wine.”
The Home Has Hollywood History
GettyThe property, which overlooks the celebrity hotspot Chateau Marmont, is steeped in Hollywood history. Johnson told “Architectural Digest” that she purchased the home from television titan Ryan Murphy.
And, of course, Johnson herself comes from Hollywood royalty, as evidenced by the personal touches throughout the house. Her office walls are adorned with a Polaroid of Don Johnson’s best friend, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas author Hunter S. Thompson, who Dakota describes as “like a godfather to me,” and a portrait of her grandmother, Tippi Hendren, casually hanging out with one of her pet tigers. In the dining room, Johnson displayed a painting by “Kids” writer/director Harmony Korine.
Johnson’s Real Estate History
GettyThis home is Johnson’s first real estate purchase, but not her last.
Johnson told “Architectural Digest” that she had been living in New York prior to purchasing the home and felt a pull to maintain a home base amid the rollercoaster of “Fifty Shades of Grey”
“I thought it would be healthy to have a base,” she told the magazine. “With my job and the velocity at which my schedule can change, it’s important for me to have a place to go to and it be mine. Psychologically, I’m moored somewhere. This place is my anchor.”
The actress later purchased a five-bedroom Malibu mansion with her then-boyfriend, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, in 2020 for $12.5 million, according to Realtor.com. However, the couple split after eight years in 2025 and sold the property for $14.4 million.
Johnson’s latest real estate investment will keep her in the Hollywood Hills, according to “Star Magazine.” The outlet reports that the actress spent $5.3 million on a recently updated Mediterranean-style home built in the 1950s in late 2025. While the citrus situation of her new property remains unclear, it does boast an olive grove.
