A New Chapter After Her Broadway Debut

The Cabo trip comes after a major professional milestone for Taraji P. Henson. According to People, she recently made her Broadway debut in August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.”

The production was directed by Debbie Allen. Henson starred opposite Cedric the Entertainer in the revival, which ended its run on July 26.

Taraji P. Henson described the Broadway experience as “bootcamp” while speaking with People. She also praised the immediacy of live theater.

“It’s so alive,” she said.

The role carried particular meaning because of Henson’s connection to Wilson. She first met the celebrated playwright while studying at Howard University, making the Broadway opportunity feel like a full-circle moment.

Her long career has included a wide range of roles. Years before “Empire” made her a household name, Taraji P. Henson appeared in Lifetime’s “The Division” from 2001 to 2004. She played Inspector Raina Washington on the series.

She later returned to Lifetime for “Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story” in 2011. Henson portrayed Tiffany Rubin in the true-life-inspired movie.

That performance brought her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie, according to Television Academy.

Henson has since built an extensive résumé across television, film, and theater. Her Broadway debut added another major achievement to that list.
