Sheer dresses are a popular choice among celebrities. Just take a peek at Jenna Ortega, Sydney Sweeney and Mia Goth all embracing the see-through style. Whether you’re into the look or feel like it’s just not for you, one person who seems to love it is Dakota Johnson.
In fact, she’s worn sheer dresses so often that she’s confidently responded to those who don’t exactly approve.

She also noted that she doesn’t wear a dress merely because it’s sheer. She explained, “Sometimes those dresses look good on me. But there are also some we’ve tried on that didn’t look good at all.”
“It all depends on the shape, the finish, the color, and everything else,” she said. “So if I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it!”
She then added, “And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress.”
Dakota Has a Healthy Relationship With Her Body
Mike Coppola/Getty ImagesOne reason Dakota may be confident enough to wear sheer dresses is the fact that she has a healthy relationship with her body. That’s something that she got from her mother, actress Melanie Griffith.
“My mom was just very open about the topic of bodies,” Dakota said in the Vogue Germany interview.
“She taught us how to take care of our bodies and love them, and that our bodies are beautiful,” Dakota continued. “And I think that’s something really important for a young girl because we’re constantly told that we’re not good enough … That was a huge gift she gave me.”
Dakota’s Been Wearing Sheer Dresses for Years
Wearing a sheer dress is nothing new for Dakota. In fact, she’s been wearing the seemingly lasting style for years now.
For instance, she opted for a blue lacy sheer gown while attending the Opening Green Carpet for the 21st Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, on September 25 (seen above).
Then, in September, she showed up for the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in New York City while wearing a sleek black lacy piece (also seen above).
