Dakota Johnson stepped out in a dress that has left fans in awe of her fashion savviness and bold choices. That’s thanks to the outfit she opted to wear while attending the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in New York City on Thursday, September 11.
Opting for a black Gucci gown, according to People, Johnson’s dress featured lace embroidered into a gorgeous floral pattern. What’s also notable — and surely the most talked about aspect of the outfit — is that the piece was relatively sheer. Underneath, the star simply wore a black bra and black panties.
Also featuring a high neck, long sleeves and a significant train, the full-length dress covered everything beneath her chin except for her fingers and toes. To complete the look, Johnson wore her hair up and added emerald earrings with a matching necklace.
People noted that the overall ensemble was the work of Kate Young, a popular Hollywood stylist who has worked with other stars including Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Michelle Williams, Selena Gomez and Julianne Moore, per the BBC.
Plenty of Fans Loved Johnson’s Daring Dress

That includes the dress she wore for the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner which took place on the first day of New York Fashion Week. Granted, some people were a little aflutter over the sheer nature of the dress. However, others were in love with the look.
“This outfit is 🔥🔥🔥,” one fan wrote on an Entertainment Tonight Instagram post about Johnson’s dress. Another fan of the ensemble — and the “Materialists” star — left a comment to say, “Can this woman be any more perfect????”
Yet another Instagram user used all caps to emphasize their point while simply writing: “STUNNING.”
Johnson Was Joined by Other Stars
GettyJohnson was undeniably stirring up admiring reactions to her dress. However, she was attending the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner for another reason. The focus of the night was to help raise money for women in need.
The event is meant to bring together “leaders from fashion, film, and culture to raise vital funds for organizations combatting gender-based violence and supporting survivors and their families in gaining financial empowerment and independence,” according to a press release from the foundation.
The night was hosted by Salma Hayek Pinault and her husband, François-Henri Pinault. Johnson and Hayek were just two celebrities in attendance. Other famous figures showed up for the fourth annual dinner, including Demi Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Julianne Moore, Adrien Brody and Jessica Chastain, per Page Six. That’s not to mention Mariska Hargitay, Julianne Hough, Linda Evangelista and the recently married Lauren Sanchez.
