Back in 2019, Kathie Lee Gifford left her home in Greenwich, Connecticut, to make the move to Nashville. Coming after she retired from the “Today” show following 11 years on the program, Kathie decided to settle in a new state when she realized she was no longer happy in the home that she had shared with her late husband, Frank Gifford, who passed away in August 2015 at the age of 84.
“This home of mine in Connecticut, where Frank and I raised our beautiful children and we had so many happy years, when I was living there alone, dogs can only do so much for you, and I love my dogs,” Kathie told People. “[I]t went from being the most teeming, thrilling, joyful — all the dog sounds, the kid sounds, the smoke in the grill and, you know, it just was life.”
“It came to feel like a mortuary with me just there alone,” she continued. “And I said I need to make a new life for myself or this one’s going to kill me.”
Now, Kathie has decided to sell “her enormous Connecticut estate … for the staggering price of $100 million — 32 years after she purchased the expansive abode with her late husband,” according to Realtor.com. Kathie and Frank “paid just $7.8 million for the expansive Greenwich, CT, mansion, less than 8% of the sum that the former on-air star is now asking for the eight-bedroom dwelling.”
Kathie & Frank Added to the Already Impressive Mansion
When Kathie and Frank purchased the home, known as Cedar Cliff, they embarked on an ambitious renovation project that included every part of the property, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). For instance, the pair added a full wing to the mansion that includes the primary suite and home office, while also boasting a movie theatre and wine cellar.
The listing explains, “The East Wing, constructed in the early 2000s, introduces a new dimension of contemporary luxury, anchored by a sophisticated primary suite and complemented by a custom office, wine cellar, and private theater capable of accommodating up to twenty guests.”
That’s not to mention one addition that gave Kathie the opportunity to make music and keep on top of other work. She told the WSJ, “We also added a professional recording studio, where I continued my songwriting and broadcasting career.”
The Estate Offers Plenty of Top-Notch Perks
“Perched in timeless elegance atop an expansive 2.91-acre gated peninsula, with best-in-class views of the Manhattan skyline and the shimmering Long Island Sound, Cedar Cliff is a Mediterranean villa of unrivaled pedigree and commanding presence,” the listing tells potential buyers.
The listing also notes that “[e]ach of the eight oversized bedrooms is oriented to capture breathtaking water views, while interiors blend the romance of pre-war craftsmanship with modern refinement — soaring ceilings, intricate millwork, antique wood floors [and] a three-level elevator.”
Outside, “[t]he grounds rival those of a world-class private resort,” per the listing. “A substantial stone pier and deep-water dock provide immediate access to open water, while a seaside tennis court with pergola and lighting offers championship-level play.”
Beyond that, “[a]t the water’s edge, a pool and spa are paired with a fully realized cabana featuring a fitness center, kitchenette, and changing rooms,” the listing points out. “With access to a private beach and watercraft facilities, and located less than an hour from Manhattan and minutes from Westchester County Airport, the property offers a rare convergence of seclusion, scale, and global accessibility.”
