The Grand Ole Opry Makes History With First-Ever Global Performance

The Grand Ole Opry is going global!

For the first time in its 100 year history, the iconic epicenter of country music is taking its show across the pond, taking over London’s Royal Albert Hall Friday, September 26.

And if you think the British aren’t ready for a country music invasion, think again. The show is sold out!

Opry members Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Darius Rucker, and Marty Stuart have all made the transatlantic jump and will take the stage Friday.

And they’ll be joined by British artists Breabach and Mumford & Sons.

Fans In the U.S. Can Tune In to Hear History-Making London Show

Country music fans in the United States can tune in to listen to the Grand Ole Opry’s live London show on WSM Radio at 2:30 p.m. ET.

In the U.K., fans who weren’t lucky enough to snag tickets to the sold-out show can listen in as well on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.

Country music is actually exploding in popularity in the U.K., and the Opry knows it.

“This landmark year for the Opry comes at an ideal moment, as country music experiences an extraordinary surge in global popularity, particularly in the United Kingdom,” said Colin Reed, Executive Chairman of Opry Entertainment Group parent company Ryman Hospitality Properties in a statement.

He went on, “Our first-ever broadcast outside of the United States will celebrate the influential music that has shaped this genre.”

Country Stars Visit Iconic Abbey Road Ahead of Opry Show

Some of the biggest names in country music right now are in London preparing for Friday’s show.

And they took a detour to the historic Abbey Road Studios, a landmark immortalized by the Beatles.

Marty Stuart spent some time at Abbey Road with the Opry band ahead of Friday’s concert.

In an Instagram video, Marty said, “I just want to feel that Grand Ole Opry feeling, you know. Let’s go back to what was originally called ‘a good-natured riot.’ Our job is to cause a ‘good-natured riot’ in the midst of Royal Albert Hall and entertain people. And I hope we do that. I have no doubt we will. The Opry band is here. Great Opry stars…”

Marty Stuart compares the Royal Albert Hall to another iconic building. “I’ve equated the Royal Albert Hall to the Ryman Auditorium. In the fact that both of those places have seen it all. But one thing they haven’t seen is the Grand Ole Opry coming to town… It’s a great thing to be a part of.”
