Country Star Cancels Festival Show Due to ‘Safety’ Issue

A famous country music performer encountered serious aircraft safety concerns over the weekend that forced him to cancel his scheduled appearance at Maryland’s Country Calling Festival, leaving him with no alternative options.

Koe Wetzel informed fans on Sunday, October 5, that he would be unable to perform his set at the Ocean City Inlet Beach festival, despite efforts to find a solution. The 33-year-old artist shared the disappointing news through his Instagram Stories and Facebook page, prioritizing safety over the show.

Koe Wetzel Puts Safety First

“What’s up, y’all. I hate to do this, but we won’t be able to make it to Maryland for our set tonight at Country Calling due to a safety issue with our aircraft,” the multi-platinum outlaw country performer wrote in his message to followers.

He continued explaining the situation: “We tried to find a way, and unfortunately, we are out of options. We’re super bummed and hope we can make it up to y’all soon. Thanks for understanding. Much love, Koe.”

Wetzel did not disclose details about the specific aircraft type or his departure location in his announcement. However, fans responding to the post expressed understanding and support for the difficult decision.

“Glad you’re safe, Koe. That’s all that matters,” one person commented beneath the Texas-born artist’s Facebook update.

While some attendees expressed disappointment, particularly those who had experienced previous cancellations, many others agreed with the performer’s choice to prioritize well-being. “Would rather see this than a ‘World wide s*x idol Koe Wetzel dead at 33 due to plane crash,'” one Instagram user commented.

Recent Charitable Work and Upcoming Shows

The festival cancellation occurred exactly two months after Wetzel organized a benefit concert to support Texas flood victims. The August event, titled “Stronger Together,” took place at The Pavillion At Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas, and featured multiple artists, including Kolby Cooper, Casey Donahew, and Mike Ryan, according to Parade.

“Texas is home – these floods hit our neighbors hard and they need our help. Music has a way of bringing people together, and I’m grateful to my friends who immediately raised their hands to help when we called. This benefit concert is our way of standing with the people of Texas and doing whatever we can to make a difference as our great state rebuilds,” Wetzel stated in a press release.

The performance benefited the Kerr Country Flood Relief Fund through Wetzel’s foundation, Koe’s Kids. Sponsors included Raising Cane’s, Outlaw Beer, and Rock & Roll Denim.

The Country Calling Festival ran from October 3 through October 5, with Wetzel’s performance scheduled for the final day. The three-day event featured headline performances from Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Luke Combs. Additional performers included Jon Pardi, Jordan Davis, Wynonna Judd, Chase Rice, LeAnn Rimes, and Gabby Barrett.

Earlier this month, Wetzel returned to Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He played football there before an injury redirected his path toward a career in music. He participated in opening the university’s new Fort Worth-based Educational Employees Credit Union.

“Stephenville is where it all started for me — from the football field at Tarleton to the dive bars where I first started playing shows. Coming back to open the EECU Center on campus feels like one big full-circle moment. I’m fired up to be part of something this special at a place that means so much to me,” Wetzel told Fort Worth Magazine.

Wetzel will perform next on Saturday, October 11, at Redwest 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fans can find a complete listing of his tour dates on his official website.
